On Sunday, the fashion world lost one of its true pillars: Italian designer Valentino Garavani, who died at age 93 in Rome. The man behind the iconic Valentino house — and the unforgettable Valentino red — passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy stitched into decades of elegance and glamour.
Valentino wasn’t just a couturier. He was the architect of sophistication, a maker of gowns that made women feel powerful, poised, and downright beautiful. Royals, stars, and style icons flocked to his atelier — from Princess Diana to Elizabeth Taylor. His work wasn’t about flash; it was about refinement, quality, and enduring style.
And then there’s Meghan — whose wardrobe choices have always been thoughtful, smart, and intentional. Over the years, she’s turned to Valentino again and again, proving that his designs aren’t just timeless … they’re modern classics.
Here are some of my favorite times Meghan wore Valentino:
The custom Valentino red dress with embroidered shoulder wrap that she wore in 2019 on the couple’s arrival in Morocco — bold, elegant, and unforgettable.

Her bag is also from Valentino – the ‘VRing’ small colorblock leather crossbody bag.

The Valentino black puff-sleeve embroidered tulle gown that she wore to Misha Nonoo’s wedding in September 2019.

A white Valentino floral-embellished mini shift dress she first wore to the Global Citizen Live Festival in NYC, September 2021, and brought it back out for her birthday celebrations in August 2025.

That Valentino oversized double-breasted twill blazer and match trousers In white at the Invictus Games in The Hague, April 2022 — sharp, powerful, and timelessly chic.

She carried the Valentino one stud leather shoulder bag In ivory as well.

The Valentino floral laser-cut mini dress in ivory that she wore to a reception at the Invictus Games – The Hague, 2022. She also wore her Valentino rock-stud sunglasses.

In the Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, Meghan wore the Valentino double-breasted long coat in dark navy.

Meghan wore a Valentino double-breasted blazer and matching silk trousers in chestnut brown at a Netflix event for The After, November 2023.
Valentino crepe couture pants In black worn for the Women@Spotify Event in LA, October 2022.

UPDATE 1/21: Meghan wore a Valentino black floral-appliqué embellished minidress to a Katy Perry concert with Misha Nonoo, November 2023.

Meghan wore a Valentino cashmere and silk sweater in black to the Vancouver Canucks game, February 2025.

A pair of Valentino ‘Roman Stud’ flat mule In ivory that she wore on several occassions – including dropping Archie off at school and for International Women’s Day in Austin, TX, March 2024.

Finally she carried the Valentino ‘V-Ring’ small crossbody bag In red while out to dinner for Valentine’s Day in Whistler, Canada during the Invictus Games, February 2025.

Meghan’s wardrobe has always felt intentional — like she’s dressing for the woman she is, not just the job title she carries. And Valentino’s silhouettes, fabrics, and craftsmanship just fit her approach: elegant, grounded, confident.
Valentino may be gone, but his legacy — the clothes, the moods, the moments — lives on in every red carpet, every tailored suit, and yes, in every time Meghan reaches for that little Valentino piece that feels just right.
He didn’t just design clothes. He helped write decades of female style stories — and Meghan’s is one of the more beautiful ones.
Rest in style, Valentino. Your wardrobe of dreams will be worn and remembered for generations.
