Meghan and Harry attended the Global Citizen Live Festival in Central Park, New York City today.
The couple arriving at the festival in Central Park.
Harry and Meghan received a very warm welcome as they took the stage.
The annual music festival in Central Park aims to push for greater action to combat climate change. This year’s event is a 24-hour, performance-packed broadcast meant to raise funds and awareness for vaccine equity across the globe.
The couple gave a passionate joint speech in favor of global vaccine equity, calling on world leaders and pharmaceutical companies to ensure everyone, everywhere has access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Harry began with —
Look at all of us here! 60,000 strong, together in New York City. Are we prepared to do what’s necessary to end this pandemic?”
“It is so good to be back here with all of you. Look, we know that it feels like this pandemic has been going on forever, we get it. It’s been a lot and some people are just over it, but, if everyone’s over it, it’s never going to be over. There’s so much that we can do today, now, that can get us closer to ending this pandemic, and that’s why we’re all here. We’re able to be here tonight because the most brilliant scientists, researchers, frontline workers and selfless public health leaders have risked their lives to protect our global community. They are our humanitarian heroes. While in this country and many others you can go and get vaccinated, billions of people cannot.”
The Duchess continued —
“Every single person on this planet has a fundamental right to get this vaccine. That’s the point. But that’s not happening. And while in this country and many others you can go almost anywhere and get vaccinated, billions of people around the world cannot,”
Harry then spoke —
They said many countries are ready to produce vaccines at home, yet they aren’t allowed to, because ultra wealthy pharmaceutical companies are not sharing the recipes to make them. These countries have the means the ability and the workers to start manufacturing. All they are waiting for is the vaccine intellectual property to be waived and for the vaccine technology to be transferred over,”
Meghan continued —
And finally in our conversations, these experts shared that how the vaccine is distributed, and who it’s distributed to, should be left to independent international organizations who know exactly where the doses are most needed. Just think about the millions of vaccines that have been discarded this year. That’s like throwing away life vests, when those around you are drowning.”
The couple shared a cute moment on stage when Harry referred to Meghan as, “my wife”, and the crowd began to cheer loudly.
The video clip below shows the special moment as it happened.
Harry began to speak again after their brief embrace —
“My wife and I believe that where you’re born should not dictate your ability to survive.”
The two stood hand in hand for the rest of the speech as Meghan concluded —
Every single person on this planet has a fundamental right to get the vaccine. That’s the point, but that’s not happening.”
She continued — “And while in this country and many others, you can go almost anywhere and get vaccinated, billions of people around the world cannot. This year, the world’s expected to produce enough doses to meet the target of vaccinating 70% of the people in every single country. But it is wrong that so much of the vaccine supply has only gone to just 10 wealthy nations so far, and not everyone else. It’s just not OK.”
Backstage at the festival, the couple shares a moment together.
Watch and listen to the couple’s speech below —
The Duchess introduced the US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield who the couple held a meeting with on Friday.
The festival was broadcast live from six continents including Lagos, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, and Sydney. The event featured musical artists, celebrities and world leaders coming together to create change and impact climate and poverty issues.
The World Health Organization tweeted about the Duke and Duchess’ hard work and efforts.
Some of the performances included; Alessia Cara, Billie Eilish, BTS, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Demi Lovato, Duran Duran, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, H.E.R., Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Batiste, Keith Urban, Lizzo, and Lorde.
And now, what Meghan wore for the special event.
She arrived wearing a black coat with a grey plaid scarf. Both items have yet to be identified.
Her coat is from the Dior Spring 2017 Collection. We think it may be called the 30 Montaigne coat – here is the short jacket version — 30 Montaigne Bar black double-breasted wool coat.
Rhianna wore the coat to the Dior show at Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Fall/Winter, March 2017.
Thanks to Laura on Twitter for the ID!
As the couple took the stage, Meghan was in an ivory floral-embellished Valentino dress, $5400. Also available at Saks here and Bergdorf’s here.
The dress is described as virgin wool with silk-floral embellishment. It has a round neckline, short sleeves, a hidden back zipper.
A closer look at the details.
UPDATE 26 September: She wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik BB 105 pumps in black satin. As it turns out, after sorting through many photos, we’ve determined that the shoes are not from Manolo Blahnik as originally thought. We are still searching for the designer/brand she wore. We’ve included additional images of the heel on the shoe. Apologies for any confusion.
We think she may be wearing Gianvito Rossi black 105 satin pumps, $695.
Meghan carried a new bag from Dior. It is the medium ‘Lady D-Lite’, $4900
Meghan’s Dior bag is customized with “DSSOS” for Duchess of Sussex. With thanks to @emgcollins for this info!
UPDATE 26 September 2021: The Duchess wore a new pair of sunglasses from Miu Miu – ‘Artiste’ sunglasses, $410.
She stuck to her staple Cartier Tank watch (Princess Diana’s), Jennifer Meyer 18k gold bezel tennis bracelet ($3000), Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet, Lorraine Schwartz emerald cut diamond pinky ring and her Birks ‘Snowflake’ rose gold and diamond ring.
We did notice a forth bracelet over the three day visit (see the bracelet above her watch in the image below). It’s a nameplate bracelet and we’re almost positive that it is personalized with “ARCHIE ♡ LILI” or “ARCH ♡ LILI ” (as we’ve heard them refer to Archie as “Arch”.
Meghan’s Closet Chronicles on Instagram has suggested that the bracelet is from Zoe Lev. Apparently the brand confirmed this, but we want to be sure. It’s hard to tell without clear hi-res images and we know over the years that items are mistakenly ID’d. It happens.
Our thought is that bracelet is from Jennifer Meyer as this is a brand the Duchess favors. It is the designer’s Custom Yellow Gold Nameplate Bracelet, $950.
Either bracelet is a great option depending on your budget. We could learn that the bracelet is another brand entirely. We’ll update the post as we find out more information.
Meghan wore her Galanterie de Cartier diamond stud earrings again as well.
Meghan’s mask worn on the way to the festival with the scalloped edge is a heavy duty surgical mask. She first wore it for her visit for her visit to the elementary school in Harlem on Friday.
The mask is from AirQueen. Available here on Amazon or direct from AirQueen, $21 for a pack of 10.
We found some that are similar, PURE-MSK Surgical Micro-fiber Face Mask, 10 for $22. They come in black or white.
We’re not sure if we will see the Duke and Duchess again this weekend or if they are now headed back to their home in California. We hope you have all enjoyed this special “Royal Visit” this past week as much as we have. I’m sure we will see more of this rock-star duo soon and we look forward to bringing you all every detail!
Last, I’d like to wish our own Rachel Burchfield a very happy and fabulous birthday! XOXO

UPDATE 27 September: Meghan and Harry returned home to California on Sunday. There are photos of the couple warmly greeting their team at the airport. We will not be posting the photos here. However we did notice that Meghan was wearing her Chanel ballet flats, a pair of black jogger pants and a beige sweater or sweatshirt.
Here are the Chanel ballet flats. They are no longer available, however you can pick them up new/used from Fashionphile.com here.
Here are some budget friendly styles to “Get the Look” and #MatchMeg style —
ASOS, $29 / Michael Michael Kors, $79 / Softwalk, $99
The tote bag seen in the photos next to Meghan is from Bottega Veneta — the Arco Tote, black leather, $2450.
Thanks to Royal Fashion Police and @pabloiurdiroz on Instagram for the ID.

I love this Valentino mini dress. Meghan looks fantastic in it, and the cream color makes her glow.
frankie says
Was wondering if we could get an ID on Harry’s suit for What Harry Wore?
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Frankie – Harry’s suit is on my list of things to ID, as well as other pieces he was worn the past month. Stay tuned! – Susan
OperaFanatic says
This may sound crazy, but as a fellow Southern Californian, I have spent Septembers for decades in clothes that are seasonally appropriate, but not necessarily weather appropriate. I think it has something to do with not having “real” seasons, with wildly varying temperatures; we just want to wear the yummy Fall clothes, whatever the weather. I went back to school every year in sweaters and wool skirts in 80 degree weather. It’s kind of embedded in an LA girl’s DNA.
WhatMeghanWore says
OperaFanatic – We did the same thing growing up. We would get excited by a new Fall wardrobe for school that we couldn’t wait to wear it all and sometimes when it was still really warm out. – Susan
Laurie says
The Valentino dress is just perfect for this event. It’s playful without being too editorial or over the top. I know some people quibble with the length, but it’s a party frock, not a business suit! An up-do was the right call for this dress…allowing the embellishments to shine without competing with her hair. She looks fresh, festive and polished!
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Laurie, I just wanted to say thank you for your well worded critique of Meghan’s outfits. This is a fantastic example of how to appropriately critique an outfit. If that makes sense. – Susan C.
Lakegirl says
I love the dress but cannot get on board with the messy hair, just a pet peeve of mine.
Stef says
Could these be the shoes she was wearing?
https://editorialist.com/p/black-105-satin-pumps/
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Stef, Thanks for this. I was looking at Gianvito Rossi pumps but this shows a better profile of the shoe itself. I think it could be a match. Thanks! Susan
Christina says
Good evening darling! glasses that were on Megan at the concert from Linda Farrow Oval Sunglasses
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Christina – we thought they were Tom Ford as someone else suggested. I will take a closer look. Thank you for this.
WhatMeghanWore says
Christina – do you have a link to the sunglasses from Linda Farrow. We’re not finding anything yet that matches Meghan’s. thanks, Susan
Mary says
This dress is lovely. Not as frighteningly short as it appears on the model. The high neck balances the rest nicely so the dress is sexy but very elegant and sophisticated. The hair takes a bit of the seriousness away and ads a playful element. She looks so good in this cut.
K van Voorhees says
Love the little white/cream Valentino mini dress with embellishments at the top and hem. Very pretty, flattering, and finally *weather appropriate*! 🙂 Meghan looked lovely. As far as the black wool coat and what appears to be wool challis or light weight cashmere scarf wrapped up to her chin she arrived in, I cringed, as it looked like something you might wear in 45 degree weather heading out to a lunch or dinner. Yes, understand she wanted to cover up the dress until she got to the stage but a light weight trench and silk scarf would have done the trick. I live a few blocks from the Carlyle and it was 75 degrees yesterday. This is a neighbourhood where women actually wear the type of outfits Meghan sported on this trip; business/philanthropist, understated chic. However everyone is dressing weather appropriately. No wool coats, wool trousers and turtlenecks yet! It was short sleeves yesterday with perhaps a sweater tied around the neck, perhaps breaking out some fall colours.
Meghan even did this on occasion whilst a working royal causing people to scratch their heads as to why she was either dressing not warm enough or too warmly for the weather at hand. The reason mostly I think is because she wanted to wear something new and as current as possible. So for instance if she or a stylist was shopping for this trip say a month ago what would be in stock would be fall/winter. I do think these clothes were bought very recently, seemingly not leaving enough time for trousers hemmed and sleeves shortened where necessary. According to The Telegraph they did bring along their own photographer Matt Sayles, and a videographer. Perhaps planning on using the stills and footage for a project they’re working on (Netflix?). The context of the too warm weather in which she is wearing the clothes would be lost and irrelevant in that case. Lastly, I did take a look at Vogue today and it’s all complimentary. It’s he latest season, that’s mostly the international fashion press care about. The weather in which she’s wearing the clothes is pretty much ignored.
K van Voorhees says
Ps When I used the term “bought”. I meant it loosely. Probably “acquiring” would have been more accurate. As she’s no longer a working royal she may not actually be paying for these clothes/accessories worn for high profile events, which is fine. Why not? 🙂
Kate Mcdermott says
At the final event the hair was too messy for me. i loved the low ponytail and the casual look but still was too messy. I loved the dress. It is a bit short but still looked good. I don”t understand the heavy fall clothing when it has been SO warm. I’m sure she can get a weather forecast in advance. Also, I don’t understand the need to hide and reveal. Seems a bit silly.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Kate – We’re thinking two things. We know she was sent pieces from designers to wear on the this trip. She may have felt “obligated” to wear them regardless of the weather. We also know that celebrities will wear long oversized or heavy coats even in warm weather, to hide what they are wearing underneath – such as Saturday’s festival – ultimately revealing her dress on stage. So it sort of makes sense, but not necessarily to all of us. I hope this helps. – Susan
Eva#2 says
Of course anyone can get a weather forecast in advance but that does not mean it will be correct; in the northeast weather is always unpredictable. We have a saying that goes “weather casters are as reliable as a Quija Board”.
Jessica says
I think this is a very pretty dress, though I agree with some others on social media that it’s just a *tad* short. Still, it’s an incredible sartorial challenge to look chic at this stage postpartum, and I think it was a great choice–the unstructured cut and heavy fabric are very forgiving, and certainly she has every reason to show off her legs.
I like the layered gold watch and bracelets, and I also like the earrings, but I’m not sure they work together? That’s a pretty small point. The earrings remind me of the Duchess of Cambridge’s “Empress” earrings from Mappin & Webb.
Karen says
Thank you for the info. Do you know which sunglasses she is wearing with her black coat?
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Karen, Sorry, Ashley on Twitter ID’d the sunglasses as Tom Ford but they do not match the pair Meghan is wearing. We’re looking at other designers and styles. thanks, Susan
Jess says
First, thanks to all you special people here at WMW for your amazing reporting! This is such a treat amidst all of the terrible stress of Covid.
Second, I love Meghan in this white dress! I know she arrived in another winter-ready coat (?!) but this dress is truly special. I’m also a big fan of her hair in a low ponytail. Lovely.
As a side note, I love that she and Harry hold hands and make physical contact with each other all of the time. It feels authentic and loving.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Jess, Thank you for your kind words and support. We appreciate it so very much! xo Susan

Your coverage of the Sept 2021 Sussex visit to New York has been amazing. Thanks for posting all the wonderful pictures, event descriptions and, of course, details about what Meghan wore. I’m so glad I found this site!
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Bluberry, Thank you so much for your very kind words. We appreciate the support! xo, Susan
JennB2112 says
I really love this white dress! I’m so glad to see her without a coat, which I think was an easy item for her to use to camouflage her post baby body (I wish she didn’t feel that she had to conceal it) but so understand the coats may have helped her feel more confident.
The hair has been the surprise for me, in that we haven’t seen it down and always pulled back. She must consider the low buns her working and serious hairstyle.
Overall, this dress was the best outfit IMHO, the others were ok and maybe a little too designer for my tastes but I think that being in NYC can lean that way sometimes.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Jenn – A follower on Instagram said that celebs will wear a big coat, etc. to hide an outfit so that they can reveal it at an event. Someone showed the couple backstage before they went on stage, of Meghan and Harry riding in a golf cart up to the stage – she had on her coat but it was open and the scarf was removed. It’s a clever way to hide something before the reveal so to speak. JLo and many others do this as well. Thanks, Susan
Nat says
Beautiful! Very regal vintage vibes with the scarf, coat and Lady Dior bag. I do wish she’d had put her hair in a slightly higher ponytail or with straightened hair with that low ponytail. I can almost swear I saw her in a pair of sunglasses today as well but I can’t seem to find that picture anywhere.
Nat says
Oops I just saw you posted one with her glasses. Again, I must say it’s giving me major First Lady- esque vibes.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Nat, There is an error in the ID of her sunglasses. Ashley on Twitter suggested Tom Ford, but these are not the ones she is wearing. We’re still looking for the exact pair. Thanks!
Nat says
I saw that too. I saw someone else suggest they are Miu Miu and I think it is in fact similar in style
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Nat, Thanks! We found the sunglasses. – Susan
