The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen today.
Whereas yesterday’s appearance at Trooping the Colour was much more behind the scenes, this morning at the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were right out front as they’ve been in the past. The couple hasn’t been in the U.K. together in over two years, since their departure as working members of the royal family in March 2020.
UPDATE 6/6: Meghan was elegant in white this morning, wearing head-to-toe Dior: a trench coat, skirt, and shirt from the Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri, a white hat from Dior by Stephen Jones, Dior gloves, and Dior D-Moi pumps on her feet. Her earrings are Birks snowflake earrings. **Makeup artist Daniel Martin and hairdresser George Northwood are on site in London providing Meghan’s glam this week.
**While makeup artist and long time friend, Daniel Martin was in London during the Jubliee, he did not do Meghan’s makeup. As it turns out, Linda Hay did the Duchess’ makeup. You may recall she was the makeup artist that created Meghan’s look for Time Magazine’s Time100 cover in September 2021.
UPDATE 6/5: We’ve read that Meghan’s Dior ensemble was actually a very pale lilac that appeared white in the photo. Another article said that it was a grey beige. We haven’t found anything in the Dior S/S 2022 collection that would confirm the color but will update the post if we should find the piece.

Harry and Meghan arrived this morning to cheers from crowds assembled outside of St. Paul’s—despite what you may have read, there were no boos, PEOPLE confirms. The couple smiled, held hands, and waved to the crowd before entering the church and being escorted to their seats next to cousins Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and their respective husbands. None of the Queen’s grandchildren appeared to bring their children to the service, including an absent Archie and Lili, who likely remained back at Frogmore Cottage, where the Sussexes are staying this week.
You can just hear the loud cheers as Harry and Meghan arrive this morning.
Diana Pearl of Business and Fashion reported from the ground about the loud cheers for the couple.

Sophie Winkleman, wife of Lord Frederick Windsor, wore a dress from Beulah London – the Ahana Chambre style in hot pink, £775 ($974).
Prince Beatrice wore the same dress in blue.
Beatrice also carried a Sophie Webster – the Cleo Wifey For Lifey Box Clutch, $525, and her hat is from Juliette Botterill Millinery, the silk bow percher, £550. Her shoes are from Ralph & Russo – the Empire pump, now $277.
Prince Eugenie wore an orange Emelia Wickstead ‘Amila’ dress, £1,630. She carried her YSL Envelope Flap Wallet on Chain, $1450 and paired it with shoes from Emila Wickstead – the Carey Satin Slingback Pumps, $685.
Zara Tindall’s dress is a bespoke piece from Laura Green London. Her shoes are from Emmy London and her hat is also from Juliette Botterill Millinery.
Zara’s husband, Mike Tindall has been creating some fun posts on Instagram, including this one from today.

A recap of yesterday’s Trooping the Colour —
After Trooping the Colour and a private family dinner following the event at Buckingham Palace, the Queen returned to her home at Windsor Castle, just a half a mile away from Frogmore Cottage. Sussex biographer Omid Scobie says the Queen likely met great-granddaughter—and namesake!—Lilibet Diana for the first time last night after the Sussex family arrived in the U.K. earlier this week. Tomorrow is Lili’s first birthday, and the Queen will be skipping the Derby at Epsom Downs to attend her private first birthday party at Frogmore.
I think people are expecting some sort of big birthday extravagant event, that we’re going to see photographs from,” Omid Scobie told BBC Breakfast.
From what I’m told, we shouldn’t expect anything. Those moments with Lilibet are very much private between them and the Queen and, of course, we know how much she’s been looking forward to it. Of course, we know the Queen went back to Windsor Castle yesterday. The couple went back to Windsor as well, where they’re staying at Frogmore Cottage. So that would have been the first moment or the first chance for her to meet her namesake.”
Tomorrow is the BBC’s Platinum Party (concert) at Buckingham Palace beginning at 8pm GMT / 3:00pm ET until 10:30pm GMT.

Meghans Dior outfit was magnificent. Her fashion often has a structured 60s vibe and it was utterly WOW
She’s always memorable as has a fabulous style edge to everything and the most beautiful face and figure,

Blue and gold Dior are still my favorites.

I absolutely loved this. I’ve loved all of her Dior outfits. I think she’s on a great hat streak. The polo, the blue one, and now this one. As to the unbelievable comment. This looks nothing like Kate has ever worn. You obviously don’t follow her. This felt very Meghan. I think the DOC has looked very much like herself at these. I don’t post as much on WKW these days. I’m late I may, but classic Kate. Meghan wore a dress she’s worn twice before with a good hat and stayed in the background. I think the blue and Dior are still my favorites, but I love this one too. Everyone was understated as it should be.

I was at the crowd outside St Paul’s on Friday. In the section I was standing, we were naming off all the “celebrities” as they arrived – like all the former Prime Ministers and current members of Parliament – and it took a while for anyone to realise we were seeing Harry and Meghan, so understated was their arrival (which I think they were going for). People did cheer, but when they left the cathedral after the service, I heard booing. It surprised me, so I’m not sure if people were actually booing something else they saw. I’ve spoken to and overheard a lot of strangers talking over this Jubilee weekend and I think in general the sentiment towards the Sussexes is positive. Overall though, it was a lovely day and it was nice to see so many fun colours on the steps of St Paul’s. I’m surprised to see Meghan’s outfit described as white (I thought it was silver) but regardless of the exact colour, I think it achieved exactly the right amount of elegance without drawing attention, especially with so many of the other ladies in bright tones. I absolutely love the length of the sleeves and appreciated them even more when Meghan and Harry left and those fabulous gloves were on display.
My only gripe is with Meghan’s hat. As an expat in the UK, so someone who also didn’t grow up with hat culture, I have to say Meghan’s hat game is generally weak (with a few exceptions, including the one worn to Trooping the Colour this week). Stephen Jones is an accomplished milliner so I’m surprised to see a hat that is so plain and, frankly, rather flimsy looking. I always covet the amazing hats in milliners’ windows but can’t afford them, so it pains me to see a royal in such a boring style! But I’ll forgive it this time as the rest of the ensemble is so chic, including that hairdo. Hooray for no messy detail!

The Duchess looked lovely, well groomed and appropriately dress, but I don’t like this Dior coat. The back flap didn’t sit well and the fit of the coat seemed off to me. I much preferred the Navy and white hat the day before ass opposed to todays. Her shoes are gorgeous, love the snowflake earrings, so pretty.

The understated chic of monochrome really works in this silhouette. However, I find the fit of the bodice and the belt unflattering for her body shape. Love the earrings, shoes – the hat is okay – perhaps not quite formal enough, though the shape flatters.. Yes, there was indeed booing when they left the Cathedral …

The gloves, the 3/4 length sleeve and the mesh stripe in the hat are all so ‘Rich lady in the French Riviera’. It’s glorious I love it!!! So fresh and elegant and luxurious looking. (And I can’t get over the prefect wrinkles on the wrist of the gloves). Love, love, love it all.

I loved this look on Meghan! She looked so elegant and put together–as always! And I enjoyed this entire post that included others’ outfits!

Meghan’s hair and makeup are lovely today. With the hat, she looks like a movie star. She is so pretty!
A news website described her outfit as “greige” instead of white. It’s a very trendy color from what I’ve read, especially in interior design. It’s pretty, but I don’t love how big the collar is. It’s overwhelming her face in close-up shots. Someone else pointed out that the fabric coat is a little stiff, and I also wish it had more movement.
I noticed Meghan was one of the few women at the event who actually put on her gloves at one point. Is there an etiquette protocol for when one would have them on? I didn’t really care for the little gap between Meghan’s coat and the gloves. I know she wasn’t wearing them for warmth, but it made me think of how annoyed I would be to have that section of exposed skin in winter!
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Meg, I also read that the outfit was actually a very pale lilac color that appeared white in the photos. Only Dior can confirm I guess. There are no royal fashion protocols despite what some people think. The Queen has always worn gloves because she shakes so many hands. It was on the chilly side in London yesterday – in the 50s – so she may have been a little colder than others. Hope that helps. Susan

Thanks, Susan! 😊

I’m not sure about this look. I think it is very appropriate and understated, but it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t really like the extra large collar and it still looks like the proportions are off for her figure. I’m also not a fan of the hat, which I think another poster said looks like something from Target — and I agree. It’s entirely too plain for this event. Maybe if she had worn her hair down, it would have looked better.
I really wish we could have seen her outfit for Trooping. *That* hat looked like a stunner. And if she was wearing the same dress as the one she wore before her wedding, I would have been excited. I’ve always thought that dress was so beautiful. But again, maybe she is trying very hard not to stand out too much? There was already so much breathless coverage about their return, I can’t blame her for want to keep a low profile.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Louise – Meghan and Harry both said that they wanted to keep very low profiles during their time in the UK in order to let the Queen shine. Her makeup artist, Daniel Martin, checked out of his hotel today so were wondering if we will not be seeing Harry and Meghan again on this trip. – Susan

I’m not a fan of trenches so this isn’t my favorite look for Meghan. That being said, the tailoring was spot on- finally! And she looks gorgeous. Understated yet elegant even in a trench. I like the hat and shoes and her make-up is lovely. Most of all she looks happy and mentally healthy and those are the most important things.
Harry looks handsome as ever, of course. You can tell he’s not as comfortable in this environment as he is in California. I hope this time with his grandmother, wife and children are a very special time together.
I can’t help but think at age 96 and the obvious toll Covid took on HM, she won’t be with us much longer and her family should cherish every moment they have with her. I’m not even British and feel that she is a very special woman. Her time in service speaks volumes of her dedication to service.
Shantel says
I think this look is beautiful overall and yes, not drawing attention away. I do wish she would have chosen a different hat- the e proportions seem off and it doesn’t seem formal enough. Lovely to see them back in the U.K.
Lara says
Wowsa thank you for the excellent extensive coverage, it was so fun to see what so many of the royal ladies were wearing today! (& how funny that Beatrice & Sophie wore the same dress?!!). Meghan looked lovely. A very appropriate ensemble, and it looked like it was nicely tailored, which unfortunately she’s had issues with in the past, as mentioned numerous times here. I can’t help but think what a “Kate outfit” this is!! She has 1 or 2 very very similar dresses and when I saw my first photo of Meghan, I actually thought it was Kate (it was a rear shot of her walking up the steps). I was so very surprised to see that it was Meghan, not Kate!!
Maureen C says
Meghan looks absolutely stunning! It was a joy to see them back in the London royal scene.
Jessica says
This was a really gloriously understated look. No one could accuse her of trying to draw attention to herself or steal the shine from anyone, and yet at the same time she looked absolutely regal in that perfect Dior coat. The collar and the bracelet sleeves, swoon! And the gloves, oh my! The shoes are great too, and the hat, while nothing special–there’s a great Meglikate at Target–is perfectly proportioned for the look. Now, her hat from yesterday–THAT was a hat!!
Nathalie says
Très très chic! 😍
