Meghan Takes Manhattan: The Duchess Glows at Gypsy on Broadway

Meghan was in the Big Apple last night as she made a surprise appearance at Broadway’s revival of Gypsy, starring none other than actress Audra McDonald.

The Duchess of Sussex began her evening in classic Manhattan fashion, dining at the iconic Ralph Lauren Polo Bar. From there, she headed to the Majestic Theatre to see Gypsy, the beloved 1959 musical that tells the story of the ultimate stage mom, Mama Rose, and her daughters, Louise and June, as they navigate the highs, lows, and sequins of vaudeville life.

The revival is already making history, thanks to six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, who becomes the first Black actress to play the legendary role of Mama Rose on Broadway. And judging by Meghan’s reaction, history has never looked—or sounded—so good.

After the show, Meghan and her close-knit crew, including interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, along with friend Tracy and her husband Brian Robbins (Co-CEO of Paramount Global), and CBS president George Cheeks, went backstage to meet the cast.

Meghan embraced Audra McDonald, posed for photos, and gushed about the performance.

McDonald, who told Vanity Fair in 2023 that Meghan is the living person she most admires, was equally thrilled, sharing photos of their backstage meeting on Instagram.

She also spent time with the show’s rising stars, including Joy Woods (Louise) and Jordan Tyson (June), who shared their excitement on social media. “Meet THEE princess,” Jordan wrote on her Instagram Stories. And honestly? She’s not wrong.

It’s no surprise that Gypsy would strike a chord with Meghan. As a Northwestern theater alumna, Meghan has always had a deep respect for storytelling. This musical is right up her alley.

Meghan wore a skirt from Carolina Herrera — the Houndstooth Column Skirt, $1390.

From Carolina Herrera’s site the skirt is described as “cut from a lightweight houndstooth tweed, this floor-length column skirt pairs perfectly with the matching floral-embroidered jacket.”

Meghan also wore her Aquazzura ‘Purist’ 105 pump in black suede, $750.

Meghan wore her staple Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet and Diana’s Cartier ‘Tank’ watch on her wrist along with, what appears to be, Diana’s diamond tennis bracelet.

We spotted Meghan’s coat and clutch bag in a photo with actor Tony D’Alelio but have not been able to identify either yet. The clutch could be the Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Leather Pouch ($1450) a brand she favors.
