Archewell Philanthropies partnered with the World Health Organization this week to host a series of meetings in which Meghan sat down with global leaders, advocates, and young people to discuss the health, safety, and well-being of communities around the world.

Much of the day focused on protecting women and girls online. Daniela Ligiero of Together for Girls presented findings from the newly launched 2026 Out of the Shadows Index, which assesses how governments address violence against children. The findings point to ongoing gaps in protection and highlight how technology is contributing to the spread of violence against women and children online.

Youth advocate Bryanna Mariñas joined the meetings alongside child safety experts and funders, with discussions focusing on the importance of including young people in decision-making. This aligns with Archewell Philanthropies’ Responsible Tech Youth Power Fund, which supports youth-led organizations focused on responsible technology. Fund grantee Sneha Dave also attended the Lost Screen Memorial Event during the week.

A meeting with Brazil’s Minister of Health, Dr. Alexandre Padilha, touched on recent legislation limiting certain platform design features, including infinite scroll. Early results suggest children are spending more time outside and engaging more with their communities.
Conversations with WHO leaders also covered adolescent girls as a key area of focus across maternal and mental health, as well as the broader push to integrate mental health support across all areas of care rather than treating it as a separate issue.
