****Scroll for Updates – 27 September****
In addition to being Prince Harry’s 37th birthday — Happy Birthday to the Duke of Sussex! — it also marks the first look at he and Meghan’s new Time cover, marking the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s inclusion on the TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people for 2021.

The cover also marks the couple’s first formally posed magazine cover together. For the cover shot, Meghan’s hair is down in loose waves, and she wears a white shirt paired with white pleated trousers and gold jewelry (details below). Inside the magazine, her hair is pulled back and she dons an olive green turtleneck with gray slacks, and, in another photo from inside the magazine, she adds a long, olive green coat to the look. The perfect look for Fall!

The piece about the Sussexes was written by friend and World Central Kitchen founder José Andrés, who penned —
Springing into action is not the easy choice for a young duke and duchess who have been blessed through birth and talent and burned by fame. It would be much safer to enjoy their good fortune and stay silent. That’s not what Harry and Meghan do, or who they are…In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”

The Duke and Duchess have also written a profile for fellow TIME100 honoree, Nigerian-American economist, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
More from Time Magazine —
As the first African and first woman to lead the World Trade Organization, a 164-member group of nations that oversees trade across the world, Okonjo-Iweala took on the role of director-general this March at a watershed moment for our global health and well-being. Make no mistake, her job affects every person, family and community.
As we face a constant barrage of vaccine misinformation, bureaucratic slowdowns across both government and industry, and the rise of variants that underscore the urgency of the situation, Okonjo-Iweala has shown us that to end the pandemic, we must work together to equip every nation with equitable vaccine access. Our conversations with her have been as informative as they are energizing. This is partly because, despite the challenges, she knows how to get things done—even between those who don’t always agree—and does so with grace and a smile that warms the coldest of rooms.”
— The Duke an Duchess of Sussex
The annual special edition of the magazine hits stands on Friday, and on Monday, September 20, TIME Studios and ABC will present the TIME100 list on television at 10 p.m. EST.
The full list of TIME100 2021 is here.
Now a look at what Meghan wore —
Credit: Pari Dukovic for TIME
For the cover photo, the Duchess is wearing a white button down shirt and white straight pleat trousers.
We do not have any information on the exact shirt she wore however we found this white shirt from The Row – the Pierre shirt in optic white, $990. Also available at Nordstrom here, Bergdorf’s here and Neiman’s here.
Laura on Twitter suggests that Meghan may be wearing Giorgio Armani Wide-Leg Trousers
in warm white, $1,195. The trousers are also available at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf’s.
The pleats and tab front appear to be a close match to that of the pair Meghan’s is wearing.
For the two additional photos that appear within the article, the Duchess is wearing what appears to be navy front pleat (also know as straight pleat) trousers with a green turtleneck sweater and in a second photo she adds a green wool coat.
It’s possible she is wearing Victoria Beckham Pleated Wool Wide Leg Trousers in dark navy, $850 (Nordstrom). Also available at Net-A-Porter here, Neiman Marcus here and Moda Operandi here. The nude version of the trousers are available at Saks here.
Here is a side by side look at Meghan’s trouser (left) vs. the Victoria Beckham trouser (far right).
UPDATE 19 September – NOTE: It has been suggested that perhaps Meghan is wearing a pair of wool trousers from The Row – the ‘Igor’ style. We don’t think these are the pants as The ‘Igor’ style has a box pleat and Meghan’s appear to be a forward or straight pleat.
UPDATE 22 September: We’ve had an additional suggestion from a follower regarding the trousers — The Row – The Avril in navy (reg. $1200 now $600). This trouser appears to be a littler wider/looser than the pair Meghan is wearing.
GET THE LOOK! Banana Republic offers a similar trouser — the High-Rise Wide-Leg Italian Wool Pant, $149.
Meghan’s green turtleneck sweater may be from the Row — Demme Cashmere & Silk Turtleneck Sweater in deep moss, $1390 (Nordstrom). Also available at Bergdorf Goodman here, Sak’s here, Neiman Marcus here and My Theresa here. We will update the post with more details should we learn anything more about the sweater.
UPDATE 17 September: The coat Meghan is wearing appears to be from The Row. It is their cashmere and wool ‘Lance’ coat in Dark Forest Green, $ 6,190. The coat is also available at Bergdorf’s here.
It is described as a double-breasted tailored coat in midweight double brushed cashmere and virgin wool with structured shoulder, pick stitched peak lapel, front flap pockets, on seam side pockets and back vent.
The color appears darker in the stock photos, however the lapel details appear to be an exact match to that of Meghan’s coat. We have lightened the stock image of the ‘Lance’ coat to show the detail, below, left vs. Meghan’s coat on the right. Notice the pick stitch peak lapel detail.
Thanks to our follower for sharing this coat with us.
We apologize for any confusion on the designer and style of the coat. Below we have kept the original information regarding The Row ‘Jaka’ coat with details about the differences in Meghan’s coat vs. this coat. We hope this helps and shows a little bit of our ID process and why we try so hard to give our readers the most accurate information.
We’re unsure about the designer/label for Meghan’s long green coat. We’ve had some followers suggest the below coat from The Row — Jaka wool and alpaca-blend coat, $4,750 (Nordstrom). The coat is also available at Net-A-Porter here, Bergdorf Goodman here, Sak’s here and Matches Fashion here. We’re thinking that this is not the coat she wore, but a good “get the look” style.
Here are two details we noticed about Meghan’s coat in helping us to ID the one she is wearing: The lapel on Meghan’s coat has pick stitch detail which The Row ‘Jaka’ coat does not appear to have. Second, the peak lapel on the ‘Jaka’ coat doesn’t appear to be as sharp when comparing it to the one Meghan is wearing.
We’ve scoured the internet and looked at a lot of different coats and designers. We found an older Burberry coat that has a similar lapel as well as one by Miu Miu (shown below). Tom Ford also uses this detail on some of his coats and jackets.
Here are some #MatchMeg styles to “Get the Look” —
From Dillards, Bernardo Single Breasted Notch Lapel Wool Blend Walker Coat in seaweed, $149 and from Mango the Lapels wool coat, $229.
A closer look at the Duchess’ jewelry worn for the cover shot.
The Duchess wore two new pinky rings on her left hand. The rings are from Shiffon – the Duet Pinky Ring in gold, $1050 for the set of two. The ring is also sold individually, $525.
Crafted from 14-karat gold and set with a tiny diamond beside a larger one, the adjustable style “represents one woman supporting another through a ‘pinky promise,’” according to the brand’s website.
The company also donates 50% of its profits to fund female entrepreneurs, with 11 companies funded to date.
More from the company’s website “About” section —
Our mission at Shiffon is to close that gender gap, particularly in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is about taking action and learning quickly, and we want to give women the opportunity to do that while not being afraid to take risks or fail. We are optimistic that we can begin making this change. Through our efforts, we aim to financially empower a million women across the globe by 2025.“
Additionally, Shiffon uses recycled metals, minimal and repurposed packaging and ethically sourced stones in its designs — surely attractive to the Duchess of Sussex, who’s famously a fan of sustainable styles.
Meghan’s friend, Serena Williams has also been seen wearing the brand’s ‘Duet Pinky Ring’.
GET THE LOOK! RepliMeg with this ring from Wolf & Badger – the adjustable gold spiral ring with a clear stone, $99.
On Meghan’s right pinky is her emerald cut diamond ring which we think may be from Lorraine Schwartz. The ring was first seen in the 2020 TIME100 photos.
Once again Meghan is wearing the gold Cartier Tank watch (which once belonged to Princess Diana) and Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet as well as her Jennifer Meyer 18k gold bezel tennis bracelet ($3000) – first seen for the VaxLive concert.

So good to see news from Harry and Meghan, they had gone quiet to rightly enjoy their parental leave following the birth of baby Lili. I also am not a huge fan of the Time 100 cover either, I think most people were perplexed why they chose that picture. I understand the message behind the color scheme, black and white. Plus Harry is white and Meghan is biracial/black so Harry is wearing black and Meghan is wearing white. It’s a show of unity for their interracial relationship. I’m not sure that was necessarily intentional but that’s the first thing I noticed with the color scheme. But the composition of the photo itself is odd with all the airbrushing/photoshopping. Harry looks like a waxy version of himself and they gave Meghan “supermodel” hair which she doesn’t need (plus Time isn’t a fashion magazine). I understand Harry is taller than Meghan so they have him sitting to have their heads at the same level in the cover photo but he just looks so uncomfortable. You can tell who has had the acting career/been in photoshoots before lol, Meghan’s facial expressions and posing are very on point and Harry looks so out of his element, especially in the picture in front of the window.
I don’t have any issues with what Meghan is wearing, I quite look her professional office looking clothes (though definitely seem out of season for late summer/early fall). The picture of them looking at each other is terrific. I do think Meghan might be wearing the same trousers in black and white, to me they just seem to be from the same brand the way they look on her. It would be nice to see the bottom of the trousers to see how they fully look on her.
Jenny says
Does anyone have any guesses as to why Meghan is dressing like it is the middle of winter? I can’t imagine it’s that cold in California at this time of year. She is also wearing a turtleneck and heavier coat in the photographs from this morning (EST). It is about 75 degrees Fahrenheit here, in Manhattan, today, so her outfit makes no sense to me.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Jenny, She may have planned for it to be cooler weather and wore the coat. Since we don’t know the brand of the coat yet, we can’t say what the fabric is. I was thinking she was wearing a sleeveless turtleneck underneath. She’s dressed appropriately with regards to wearing a dark color to a somber memorial. I was getting hot though just looking at her in that outfit. 🙂 – Susan

It’s good to see H&M again but I have to say that cover photo is not the one I would have chosen. The one of them walking hand in hand speaks “Harry and Meghan” to me. The cover reminds me of a wax museum as does the photo in front of the window, I guess the photos are trying to show them as influential in a serious way but they honestly look staged and fake to me. JMHO
Meghan looks really good in those shades of green and they are perfect for a fall setting. I don’t like the fit of the trousers so much though. I’m short waisted like she is and pants with that kind of volume with pleats doesn’t do me justice at 5″10″ and 145lbs. I prefer the look of the Banana Republic version with less fabric and no pleats. Clothing has to do with personal taste and style though and I prefer the outfit she wore on her birthday as my everyday choices. I love my cozy linen blend pants that get softer with every wash and a simple shirt or blouse. I guess those don’t scream “influential” though. LOL.
Meghan is a beautiful woman and her confidence shines so I’m not sure why they gave her so much hair in the cover photo. I’m not equating hair volume with confidence per se, but that is what comes to mind when looking at the picture. Another aspect that just looks fake and makes her hair in the other photos look…..invisible. I do like her make-up. She doesn’t need much of it but I like it here,
Harry looks good in the color he’s wearing but in the two “serious” photos he looks stiff and uncomfortable and he looks so pale compared to how he looks in recent videos. He’s got a California tan, or as much as a ginger can have, and he looks healthy and happy. He looks like he hasn’t seen the sun in years in the cover photo.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Dawn, Yes, we agree – the photo for the cover looks “off”. Between the blurred background, dropped logo behind their heads and airbrush/photoshopping they did to the photo – and filter/lighting – it caused the image to just look completely off. I am hoping the actual print magazine will look a little better. I feel like the editor was trying for a more digital 3D look. This is TIME for you – and not Vogue or other fashion magazines. Time has done better with covers though as we’ve seen in the past.
I do not care for those pants on her either – the pleats and high-waist are not very flattering. Perhaps is was the stylists that suggested these pieces – ? I do think she looks nice in green and white.
As for her hair, this was the same stylist she had for her wedding. Serge is known for cover photo hair. There is a photo of Julia Roberts on his site with mega huge hair for a magazine photoshoot. I think it looks nice, with regards to volume but perhaps overdone for the cover photo. I think it looked nicer when they appeared in Time100 last year (the black and white photos).
They both look at peace and very happy. – Susan
Dawn C says
The editing was definitely overdone on two people who need next to none because they are extremely photogenic. And you’re right, this is Time, not a fashion magazine. Could you imagine Annie Leibowitz photographing them?! Be still my heart!
Now I have to go back and look at last year’s Time magazine.
Laura says
Lovely post! Am happy you’re back to share the info! There are certainly less fashion opportunities since they’ve stepped back from royal duties.
So Megan’s larger-sized diamond pinky ring :: is this the diamond ring gifted to her at their wedding? Does anyone have info on that piece? (am also trying to recall possible controversy around that ring?)
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Laura,
It was never confirmed, however the ring appears to be by Lorraine Schwartz and matches the earrings she wore for the Lion King premiere in July 2019. This is the best close-up we’ve seen when she’s worn the ring. She also wore similar style earrings for Trooping the Colour, June 2019.
I don’t recall any controversy around her ring other than not knowing for sure if it is indeed LS.
Thanks, Susan

It may be the Row’s Lance coat – it has the collar stitching and is shorter – that they made for her in olive green.
Also, the white pants don’t seem to have belt loops, therefore the VB pants are unlikely to be the correct match
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Anonymous, It’s possibly that it is the coat. I’ve looked at it again on the Row website and I don’t recall seeing this coat on the site last week. I’m sure it was the darker image of the coat that threw me off. At one point I thought it was Tom Ford as he also had coats an jackets with a similar style peak lapel. Thanks for pointing this out!
Regarding the pants/trousers – that was an error leaving the “white” version in there for the Victoria Beckham trousers. Just under that we show a pant from Armani that is a closer match to her white pair.
Thanks again! Susan

The pleat on the VB pants is deep most of the way. More likely to be Row Avril pants
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi, Thanks – The photo of the VB trousers close up next to the photos of Meghan was not a good image or example. I have taken a closer look at the VB trousers and they do have a deep pleat. I’ve also taken a look at the ‘Avril’ trouser from The Row – it’s also a possibility that these could be the trousers. It’s so hard to tell because in the one photo of Meghan walking the trousers do not look that wide. I’ll add this option to the post. thanks! Susan
