Today the Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid a visit to a school in Harlem, New York City for a reading event.
The couple joined Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter at P.S. 123 Mahalia Jackson to highlight school initiatives and to promote early literacy.

The Sussexes received a very warm welcome with many hugs from students.
During the visit Meghan read her book, The Bench, to a class of second grade students. This was the first time she has read her book to a group of children.

I wrote this when we just had our little boy, and I haven’t read it to any other kids but you!” she told them.
Meghan went on to say —
The idea of representation … [when you’re able to say,] ‘That looks like me!’ … I wanted everyone to be included in this book.”

The Sussexes also viewed a brand new mural painted by 4th and 5th grade students. The mural featured pink paper hearts, personal stories and dedications to the couple written on them.

The children made thank you cards on paper hearts for Meghan and Harry.
The couple donated two garden boxes filled with vegetables and herbs in an effort to support the growing need within the community for easy access to fresh, healthy food.
They are also providing health and hygiene products to the families at the school through their Archewell Foundation’s partnership with Proctor & Gamble as well as a washing machine and dryer for the school to use for students’ uniforms.
Additionally, Meghan also donated reading nooks to many Graham Windham (a non-profit helping families) locations in New York, to support families’ access to books.

When asked how Harry and Meghan’s two children, Archie and Lili, are doing, Meghan replied “They’re good!”

Also today, the Duke and Duchess paid a visit to Melba’s Restaurant in Harlem. The restaurant is “regarded as the premier comfort food destination in New York City.”
The couple made a donation of $25K which goes towards Melba’s goal of raising at least $250k financial relief for the dozens of their hourly employees impacted by the pandemic. A portion of funds raised will also go to Team Unity, who advocate for multicultural education in schools.

Finally today, Prince Harry, a champion of African Parks and the environment, today was received in NYC by João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola. The president was recently honored by The ICCF Group (International Conservation) for his leadership on conservation and announced new steps being taken by Angola to protect wildlife.
Here is a look at what Meghan wore for today’s visit.
Meghan wore a red jacket and matching red trousers from Loro Piana. The jacket from the brand is the ‘Loreen’ Reversible Cashmere Coat, $5840.

We noticed Meghan is wearing sunglasses as she and Harry were leaving the restaurant in Harlem.
UPDATE 30 September: The sunglasses appear to be a brown tortoise shell. Upon sifting through additional photos, we can see a small, round, gold logo on the temple and are thinking maybe they are from Gucci. We also had a follower suggested they might be Versace.
We found the sunglasses! This was a tough one and I knew the logo, albeit slightly blurry, looked familiar. After a long search through many photos, we’ve determined that the sunglasses are from Giorgio Armani — style AR8145 in Striped Brown, $404. The sunglasses are also available at Smartbuy Glasses here, $128.

This is one of my favorite Meghan looks. I really love the oversized way of dressing. People keep talking about tailoring and I’m so confused because her clothes fit how she wants them to fit. Pre royal days Meg used to always talk about tailoring so it’s not like she doesn’t know this.
I love the monochromatic look and the color is so vibrant and rich. But the jacket is drowning her and makes her look frumpy and messy, which she most certainly is not. I think this is an editorial style that doesn’t work quite as well in real life. The jacket might be good over a bodycon dress or turtleneck and pencil skirt, but not with long flowy pants. I know that oversized boxy style is all the rage right now.
I have a number of Loro Piana items including the eyelet belt. It’s a great brand but a little inside baseball since it’s not flashy. It is truly luxurious. The styles are more relaxed but I think the jacket would have been better styled with a slimmer pant. This looks like it is swallowing her. Or should should have chosen one of their capes that could be cinched at the waist to give it some structure. Hope LP doesn’t become too mainstream. It’s my favorite “secret”.

This outfit is such an interesting choice. The blood red colour, Handmaid’s Tale associations aside, is absolutely gorgeous. Meghan looks so poised, and of course, drop dead gorgeous. Love and appreciate how well she dresses the part of a royal, without overdoing it. Love how she keeps repeating her signature, staple jewelry pieces, too. I do the same—don’t most women?!! xx

Hi Nat, I didn’t even notice the sunglasses on her! I had to go back and look through photos. They are not the same ones at the Valentino pair she wore yesterday. These look new. I don’t think anyone has ID’d them yet and since I just looked at them I haven’t had a chance to search for them either. We will update the post if they are ID’d. Thanks, Susan

I’m not quite understanding the look Meghan is aiming for on this visit to N.Y.? Why all the oversized jackets? I’m certainly not a fashionista but can someone please explain this to me?

I just saw something today in InStyle about how since it’s officially Fall, “everyone” is wearing Fall fashion styles. Something like that. Regardless, there were rumors that Jessica Mulroney was in New York, but as it turns out she posted an old photo on her Instagram account from 2 years ago. So we’re really not sure, but it could be that Jessica is styling her as this would be a look she would choose. I’ve seen so much of that oversized “look” anymore. Anyhow, that’s our take on why she may be wearing an outfit such as the one today. – Thanks, Susan
I do wonder if this is also an attempt to hide her body a bit post pregnancy, because the coats don’t a whole lot of sense otherwise. It’s still warm enough here in NYC to not even need one during the day.
I’m not saying she should hide herself, but she only gave birth a few months ago; it would be understandable if she felt uncomfortable facing the press. People also commented about her weight after she had Archie, so maybe this is an attempt to deflect some of those negative comments . Just a thought.
I’m a labor and delivery nurse and I agree with you about the oversized jackets and coats. No one has the right to publically discuss the body of a post partum woman! I’m sure Meghan and Harry want the focus to be on their work, not anything else. But I think they both look great!
After the birth of my son I can vividly remember wanting to wear roomier but still fashionable comfortable clothing. I think the odd thing here is all of the big coats—it’s just not quite fall yet.
I work in Toronto and Jessica Mulroney is always out and about in various circles here. I would not say this is a Jessie look. If you view JM’s own wardrobe on her Instagram, you will see that Jessie’s clothes always fit and at times are even a tad tight. I’ve never seen her style anyone in what looks like oversize pyjamas. It has zero tailoring and as a steamzstess I could turn out something must more appealing. I do like the colour, other than that, Meghan looks swamped in this outfit.
