The couple are receiving an award for their work in the racial justice and mental health spaces.
Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, a nonprofit organization that is named after her late father and is honoring the couple has this to share as to why the Sussexes are receiving the award —
The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kennedy said in an emailed statement. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

UPDATE: It was also announced last night that Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and Archewell have a new partnership to launch an award in RFKHR’s #SpeakTruthToPower video competition. The Archewell Foundation Award will recognize students who have used film to highlight a woman who has uplifted her community. More below —
At one point Harry joked about going on a “date night” during the awards —

They were picking up a #RippleofHope award in New York just hours before their incendiary documentary series about quitting the Royal Family. https://t.co/cgkM7uBxYf pic.twitter.com/3H39YHOwd1
UPDATE: Another bit of exciting news during the evening — Meghan won a People’s Choice Award for her podcast Archetypes!
Other nominees were Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Smartless with Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes – all of which are podcasts I listen to regularly and highly recommend!
Now our look at what Meghan wore.
The Duchess wore a custom dress by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton in white. According to Vogue — “White symbolizes peace, which was a thoughtful nod to the philanthropy work the Duke and Duchess do on Ghesquière’s part.”
She wore a pair of black patent leather pumps which have not yet been identified. Please check back for updates.
Meghan’s clutch is a “rewear”, it’s her Givenchy Black Satin Clutch With Jewelry Clasp. She first carried the clutch at Royal Ascot, June 2018 followed by a number of other events.
UPDATE 12/6: She wore a pair of long dangle diamond earrings from Carolina Herrera – the Kaleidoscope earrings, $190.
Thanks to Kristin C for letting us know that Carolina Herrera confirmed them.
Also spotted on Meghan was Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring. A piece she wore for her wedding reception.
The bracelets that she wore are her Cartier ‘Love’ bangle an two, what appear to be, diamond tennis bracelets.
Thanks to Laura A. for sharing the tip on the bracelets.

In other news… this week Netflix announced that the Harry & Meghan documentary will air the first three episodes this Thursday, December 8th and the second three episodes on December 15th.
A few of the pieces Meghan was scene wearing in the trailer have been identified.
UPDATE: Meghan’s blue/grey sweater is NOT from Etsy. Her sweater has slits on either side at the hem and she appears to be wearing a matching skirt. We apologize for any confusion. Her blue sweater is the Krista Elsta ‘Frida’ wool sweater in Light Blue, $175.
Her tan and red striped sweater is the La Ligne ‘Marin’ sweater in tan and red stripe, $295. Color is no longer available however there are a number of others to choose from.
The red and white pajamas Meghan is wearing under the sweater appear to be the La Ligne ‘Bonne Nuit’ pajamas in red, $250. Although there are a lot of brands who carry red and white piping pajamas.
The dress she is wearing in the below photo is from Reformation – the ‘Ece’ dress. It is no longer available. She first wore the dress back in 2016.
In the below photos, Meghan is wearing her J. Crew chambray shirt, $98, a piece she has worn a number of times.
UPDATE 12/8: In an opening clip from the documentary, when Meghan is doing a video journal, we see her wearing the Misha Nonoo ‘Husband’ shirt in blue, $255.
Be sure to check back for further updates. We will be doing a separate post on the documentary itself – we’re just waiting for most people to absorb it first.
Kate says
I love Meghan, and she looks radiant here.
…annnd the dress reminds me of a folded dinner napkin.
But what a smile!
AVA says
Her hair and makeup are flawless-
The dress is beautiful
the shoes should have been a strappy silverish, or goldish champagne color, with a matching small evening clutch-
the black closed in shoe is wrong-and the black and white is too harsh
where’s her friend the stylist?
Since she’s not in the royal family clutches anymore, she should start wearing some beautiful larger neck pieces-
she has a beautiful neck and could have easily added a necklace to this dress ensemble.
She looks happy.
Thankfully.
Pam says
I don’t understand why she can not find a dress that fits her and hangs well,
Susan says
For a couture dress, it is very ill-fitting. The black shoes don’t go with the outfit.
Mel says
I think the black shoes were intended to be matched with her black clutch. I thought the black and white monochromatic with her sleek hairstyle worked well together but can see how it’s not everyone’s tastes. Also, as Princess Meghan points out in their documentary, Palace Protocol says she should wear neutral colours so as not to clash with senior royals. I think it was a pared down respectful look with minimal jewels, given that she probably knew the focus would be on Princess Catherine’s absolutely beautiful look at the Earthshot Prize. It’s very thoughtful of her to continue coordinating with the senior royals, even though she’s stepped back from being a working royal.
My only nitpick would be the tailoring. I agree with others that the draping and waistband were a bit fussy, although it looked stunning when she was walking.
Leslie says
I doubt she gave Catherine a second thought when she was deciding what to wear.
Bean says
The dress is perfection as is her makeup. I love the way the dress looks like pants or a jumpsuit in some shots. It looks amazing when she’s sitting down too. She just glows!
Dawn C says
Her make-up is beautiful, as is her smile. She looks genuinely happy and relaxed. The dress from the waist down is a no-go for me. I like the top part and I love the idea of the sleeves but that’s about it. Oh, and those earrings are really neat.
Anna B says
The Duchess looks lovely, but I don’t like this custom-made Louis Vuitton gown. The top half of the gown looks nice. From the waist down IMO is problematic. The ruching/draping does not sit well, giving a boxy effect noticeable in front, side and back view of the gown. It seems the fabric is not heavy enough for the gown to flow, sit well. The hemline doesn’t seem to sit right.. The whole point of custom made /couture is perfection. Maybe strappy shoes would have looked better.
Carolyn says
I think the dress is meh. It’s not a miss but I dont find it particularly flattering. Her makeup is fantastic though.
Lorna says
She looked beautiful. I loved the dress. I’ve been searching for the earrings so I’m glad they were on here. Overall stunning.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Lorna, I’ve updated the post – the earrings are Carolina Herrera! Thanks, Susan
Jen says
I wondered why she didn’t wear her wedding reception earrings, as they have a similar line.
In any case, I love this look. When i first saw the cropped shot, I didn’t, but she looks fantastic in full shots.
Laura D. says
Amazing tailoring & fit on this exquisite gown, she finally nailed the fit and it looks amazing!! I wonder why she didn’t wear her beautiful diamond Butan earrings that she received as a wedding gift from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman? Not very many special gala occasions (that we know of lol) to wear them, they would’ve been so incredible with this LV gown??!!
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Laura,
There was a lot of controversy around those earrings because of where they were from. The earrings were on loan to Meghan, as far as we know, which may be way she hasn’t worn them again. Again, We’ve heard conflicting stories around the earrings. Thanks, Susan
Laura D. says
Hi Susan!! Oh yes I now vaguely remember something about that; they were simply stunning and only ever worn 2x that we know of? They would’ve been incredible with this gown!!
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Laura – see our posts with the earrings – in Fiji – https://whatmeghanwore.net/the-duchess-of-sussex-in-fiji-blue-and-diamonds/ and for Charles’ 70th birthday – https://whatmeghanwore.net/meghan-shines-at-buckingham-palace-birthday-bash-for-prince-charles/
Thanks, Susan
Mel says
I love Meg’s makeup, particularly that lip colour, and her skin is also so fantastic! I’d love to have her make-up artist share his secrets. She really looks like a young Julia Roberts at times. The dress looked fantastic moving, but standing still it didn’t look as wonderful.
I’m with the people who thought that the tailoring was a bit of a miss. The sleeves looked too long, which is a shame because it hid her bracelets, and the draping or skirt shape looked awkward somehow. Maybe it was the thickness of the waistband looking out of place when there’s already a strong vertical line created by the off-shoulder.
Can’t wait for your documentary post and thanks for covering the clothing so far.
WhatMeghanWore says
Hi Mel – check out one of our past posts about Meghan’s makeup and her friend, makeup artist, Daniel Martin here – https://whatmeghanwore.net/meghans-picture-perfect-royal-wedding-day-make-up-hair-and-nails/. thanks, Susan
Mel says
I also wished she had worn the earrings. Would have perfected her super glam look for the well deserved date night/award ceremony.
I wanted to comment that I thought the earrings haven’t been confirmed as being loans from Butani nor do they look particularly close to the Butani examples. If I remember correctly, Palace aides have already confirmed that they were from Sheik Mohammed Bin Salman, so not sure what the conflicting stories are and the continuing claims that they are Butani? While assuredly unintentional, nevertheless comes off rather anti-Muslim to say that the earrings coming from the Sheik have any controversy attached. They are conflict-free diamonds for sure, because Meghan only wears sustainable jewellery.
Deborah says
I like the idea of this dress, but it overwhelms her.
Meg says
The dress is very pretty and quite flattering. I was particularly struck by Meghan’s flawless makeup. She looks radiant.
