Meghan stepped out for lunch with Gloria Steinem while in New York City today.
The two have been friends for some time. Most recently Gloria and Meghan had a call with Jessica Yellin for Vogue in response to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade here in the United States. Read the full article here.
You may recall Meghan interviewed Gloria in August 2020 at Meghan’s home in California.
A look at what Meghan wore for the lunch outing today.
We’re not sure about the ID of Meghan’s shorts. We had first thought they were from Khaite, but the pleats didn’t match. We’ll continue to look for the shorts and update the post once they are found.
UPDATE 7/19: Heaven on Twitter suggested these Dior Bermuda shorts ($2,169) as the style Meghan might be wearing. We’ve only seen the shorts in black and find it hard to believe that she would have a bespoke pair made in navy. The shorts also appear longer on the model (who is most likely around 6 foot tall). It’s not to say Meghan couldn’t have had the shorts tailored, but we’ll keep looking.
Her shirt could be this one from Khaite, the ‘Argo’ top, $680. Check back for updates on this as well.
Meghan did wear the Lauren leather slide-buckle belt in the colorway Cuoio, $60. Interestingly enough, I own this belt and at first did not realize it was the same belt! Be forewarned, it runs small and I suggest ordering the next size up. The belt is also available at Dillard’s here and Ralph Lauren here.
The Duchess carried a new bag today from Cult Gaia, the ‘Nia’ beaded leather clutch in brown, $430.
She wore her Manolo Blahnik BB pumps in Cognac, $725, a pair we’ve seen her wear on a number of occasions.
Meghan also wore her Vanessa Tungendhaft ‘Clover’ earrings and Shiffon rings again as well.

A few followers have asked about the hat Meghan wore on July 4th while she, Harry and Archie were in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We think the hat may be from Cuyana.
Cuyana wide brim Panama straw hat in Chocolate, $128.
It looks like she is wearing a pair of Levi jeans in faded black or a dark wash blue. We can see part of the label on the back of the jeans.
She wore her Brother Vellies Summer Huarache in Whiskey, $195. She first wore the shoe while in South Africa, September 2019.

Thank you for posting link for those gorgeous Manolo’s!! I’ve wanted them for such a long time and they are either not in stock or do t have my size! Imagine my surprise when I clicked the link for FWRD and they had one pair left in my size!!! Do t think I’ll wear them with the baggy, pleated shorts like Meg, but I’ll still feel like a princess when I wear them this fall!
Thanks so much Susan for all you do!!

I am so behind on commenting but I loved all her NYC looks this last visit. I know some people didn’t like the shorts–heels with shorts seem to be controversial but I don’t mind it at all. They are long shorts and look totally appropriate to me. It looks very summery and chic and like she’s going to a get together in the Hamptons.

Max Mara makes a Bermuda short strikingly similar to these…I believe she has worn this brand before.
I like the overall look, except for the heels and not appropriate for NYC.

I don’t mind the look; I don’t think it’s great and probably where it dipped was the shoes. Something slightly less spindly, I think—even a block heel would have synced a little better. The shorts fall under a larger trend in Meghan’s closet of volume-on-bottom which I don’t think really celebrates her (here, they look like grandpa shorts) but meh—it’s a trend and part of THIS particular trend of baggy/loose, I think, is to celebrate *not* trying too hard (come on—does anyone look particularly amazing in this trend? Even Kate and all the models don’t). Trends, are at the very least, for summer and no one should have to be aged or shaped or endowed a particular way to enjoy a trend.
On the hair, I don’t get it. I mean, as a chic with mixed race hair that goes bananas in humidity, I totally get the “ponytail-it-into-submission” approach for NYC in July, but she’s been sporting this for a while. Anyone else think she’d look cool in a bob/lob?

I’m in the minority here but I love this look! It’s a bit retro, isn’t it, maybe from the 90s?
Jessica says
These are in dark blue are certainly a possibility.

Hi Jessica – a good suggestion but not an exact match. thanks! Susan

The Duchess looks lovely casual and chic, but I am not a fan of this look. The shorts are not flattering. The shoes seem out of place, a pair of flats IMO would have looked better. Love the shirt.

I agree! Idk if it’s the high-waist or the pleats but these shorts aren’t that great. Nor the pumps! Her sandles or espadrills would have looked super cute.! Overall I do like the IDEA of this ensemble, especially this combo of colors, but as a whole, it sadly just comes off as a miss.

Firstly, I will always love the look Meghan wore for that interview. I am 100% all about casual comfort pretty much all the time though I realize dressing more formally is necessary at times. She knocked it out of the park with that one.
She should have repeated it because this NY look is a big miss for me. Short waisted/torso folks, me included, should run away from pleats. I can probably get away with them because I’m 5’10” tall but I will never wear them unless my house burns down and that’s all the local thrift store has in a pinch. The shorts look cheap/frumpy next to the button down shirt and the heels don’t go with any of it.
Also, I never wear a tucked in shirt and a belt with high waisted pants/shorts (actually I never wear high waisted anything) because it just doesn’t work for us with short torsos no matter our height, and it certainly does Meghan no favors. And again with the tight pony. I would have a headache wearing my hair that way.
All of that aside she looks happy and I’m sure she had a great time catching up with GS and is enjoying the change of scenery in NYC. The east coast and west coast have vastly different vibes and it’s nice to get out and about and experience things different from your normal routine.

I like that the purse, shoes and belt matched in a tan colour and provided a nice contrast with the navy shorts. The shorts are a miss as the high waist and pleats give a very boxy look. Sorry Meghan, the stilettos shoes look ridiculous with shorts. Flats or sandals would have been so much better.

I know they look navy but could they be the Saint Laurent Bermuda shorts in black ?https://www.mytheresa.com/int_en/saint-laurent-wool-bermuda-shorts-1956523.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gbraid=0AAAAAD3Pw-kzvOmK7rNq_r2Do4paqDmQF&gbraid=0AAAAAD3Pw-kzvOmK7rNq_r2Do4paqDmQF&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6LvnxLSE-QIV2e7tCh1b9g99EAQYASABEgIiVvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
WhatMeghanWore says
That is a good suggestion, however the Saint Laurent shorts have different pleats than the ones Meghan is wearing. Meghan’s have a reverse pleat while the SL ones have a forward pleat. I hope this helps. Thanks for the suggestion! – Susan

Big miss here in my opinion. High waisted pleats are not flattering on her, I’m not sure if this style is flattering on anyone? The outfit looks extremely casual and then paired with heels? Loafers would have worked better since the shorts imply gardening or watching golf.
