*** UPDATE – 16 August: Scroll down for a special update on Meghan’s watch!
On Friday, The Duchess of Sussex participated in the The 19th* Represents Summit.
Meghan closed out the virtual summit from her new home in California interviewing its co-founder and CEO Emily Ramshaw (below left).
The 19th* is a new nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom focusing on gender and politics.
In a recent statement to Glamour, Meghan said —
“The 19th*’s commitment to reporting and storytelling that lifts up those who are too often underrepresented in the media has never been more important,” the duchess said in a statement to Glamour. “I’m looking forward to asking the cofounder what it means to build a media outlet with gender equity, diversity, and community at its core.”
The summit, held over the past week, saw journalists from the outlet sit down with some of the most influential women in America: three U.S. senators, including vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris, several congresswomen and congressional candidates, Melinda Gates, Hillary Clinton, and Stacey Abrams. It also featured actress Meryl Streep.

During the interview, Meghan commented —
“People are craving a change,” Meghan said, regarding the current onslaught of hyperbolic news. “People are questioning the systems we’ve always believed in.” She hoped that The 19th, a newsroom staffed by 91% women and whose reporting is free to readers and syndicated through USA Today to over 260 regional publications, and is also published in Spanish via Univision, will “be the catalyst for reset.”
Meghan also spoke about the importance of voting, and how many people have fought for that right. She added that her husband (Harry) has never been able to vote.
At the end of the 25-minute chat, The Duchess said that living in the United States for the first time in 10 years and seeing “the current state of affairs” was “devastating,” but added that the silver lining was seeing peaceful protests after George Floyd’s death, and seeing people recognize their role in perpetuating bias.
“It shifted from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration, because I can see that the tide is turning,” she said, before adding “it’s good to be home.”

For the event, Meghan wore a melon color top. It could be this one by Hugo Boss — the Regular-fit sleeveless top in light orange stretch silk. Originally retailing at $228, the top had been marked down to $91 and is currently unavailable on the brand’s site.
A follower on Instagram pointed out that the Hugo top is finished with bias tape at the neckline and the one Meghan is wearing is interfaced. The fabrics also appear to be slightly different, one seems heavier than the other. I haven’t found any other similar styles that match Meghan’s yet.
She also wore her Cartier ‘Love’ bangle bracelet in gold and her Monica Vinader Linear Friendship Bracelet in gold, $175.
The sweaters seen on the interviewers in each of the videos as well as Emily Ramshaw are part of a collaboration with 19th Represents and Lingua Franca, $380. They are 100% cashmere with hand stitching.
The brand also offers a selection of shirts with hand embroidery. 20% of sales from each shirt sold and $100 of each sweater sold will be donated to The 19th.
UPDATE 20 AUGUST: For those interested in what Kamala wore, her pearl necklace is by Irene Neuwirth. It is a version of the Pearl Gumball Link Necklace, 18K yellow gold and cultured south sea pearls, $11,480.
***SPECIAL UPDATE! 16 August: Back in July, while Meghan and Harry were out and about in Los Angeles, the Duchess was spotted wearing a gold watch. Several of our WMW followers have suggested that Meghan may have been wearing Diana’s 18K yellow gold Cartier Tank Francaise watch (seen below on Diana in April 1997)
Below, left, Meghan wearing what we think is Diana’s watch along with two other gold bracelets. The bracelets are most likely her Cartier ‘Love’ bangle bracelet in gold and her Monica Vinader Linear Friendship Bracelet in gold, $175, seen in yesterday’s video, above. Below, right, a close up view of Diana wearing the tank watch.
Meghan also owns the Cartier Tank watch in stainless steel with gold accents which she purchased herself after the second season of the tv show Suits.
Below, Meghan in September 2013 wearing her Cartier Tank Watch.
Back in 2015, Meghan told Hello! magazine that she’d always loved the watch, and decided to treat herself. She revealed —
“I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season—which, at the time, felt like such a milestone—I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.”
She had the watch engraved with the message, “To M.M. From M.M.” with a future plan for the watch.
“I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
Thank you to our readers, Katerina and Lauren, as well as our loyal followers on Instagram for suggesting the watch.
Be sure and check back as I continue to update this post.

Meghan’s extensions are too long. She looks best with shoulder-length locks. She had horrible style during her stint on “Suits.” She obviously did not have a stylist. She can afford one now, so her fashion choices are better & they are more colorful. I like Princess Diana’s 18K Cartier Tank Francaise watch. I find Meghan’s use of the word “covet” an odd choice, especially regarding a watch.

Is there a colour that doesn’t look phenomenal on Meghan? This is such a pretty shade and it looks great on her. She is really glowing, it must feel good for her to be able to be involved in more political causes now that she is no longer always representing the royal family. She is clearly passionate about it.

Kamala Harris’ gorgeous necklace is by Irene Neuwirth (confirmed on the Irene Neuwirth IG account and in Vanity Fair)!

It seems like Meghan has grown out her hair since the quarantine, so have I, although I wish mine grew as long as hers! lol. It certainly has a Cher look to it, I like it. Even though shirtless tops and dresses are not my style they look good on Meghan; she has great shoulders.

Her top and her watch are stunning, she wears them so well! I wonder at how she’s wearing her hair so long, almost like Cher – I read the length and how much it shrouds her face as a bit heavy on her. Maybe it’s just a trick effect from still shots of the video. Thank you for bringing us the update!
