Duchess Meghan’s Chic Celine Look for Invictus Games Jaguar Land Rover Challenge (UPDATE 4/19)

April 16, 2022 by Susan Courter 19 Comments

***Scroll down for UPDATES 4/19***

We’re back today with more Invictus Games The Hague coverage starting with the Jaguar Land Rover Challenge at Invictus Games Park.

Harry and Meghan arrived in a Land Rover Defender like the one shown below.

credit: We Are Invictus

Meghan wore a black Celine jacket, a pair of distressed jeans from Moussy and accessorized with her Chanel ballet flats, a black Celine bag and a pair of Linda Farrow sunglasses (Scroll down for full details on what she wore!).

Participants of the driving challenge (consisting of two team members – one driver, one navigator) have to complete a challenging obstacle course with a Land Rover vehicle. The challenge tests skill, precision, navigational ability, observation and teamwork. The driver relies on the navigator, who is also of a great importance. More on the event here.

Meghan and Harry chat with members of Team Australia below.

Below, Meghan shakes hand with a member of Team Romania.

Prince Harry even took a turn at the driving obstacle course.

Later the couple participated in another Land Rover “challenge” — riding in mini kiddie cars as young drivers took a spin around a course. (How cute is this!?)

A closer look at Team Australia driving the course.

Below a video of Meghan and Harry having fun in the mini Land Rover Defenders.

Now our look at what Meghan wore.

Meghan’s jacket the Céline ‘Chasseur’ jacket in bouclé tweed, $4,348, from their F/W 2021-22 Collection.

Meghan also carried the Céline chain shoulder bag ‘Cuir Triomphe in shiny black calfskin, $2800. Also available here.

UPDATE 4/19: We’re thinking the cream white sweater Meghan wore is her Co Collection Sweater Tank in Fine Cashmere, $395. She first wore the top in August 2021 for her 40×40 video with Melissa McCarthy.

Meghan’s jeans are from New York-based Moussy. They are the Edmond Skinny from the Moussy Vintage collection, $350. Also available here and here (for $262).

The Duchess wore her Chanel cap toe ballet flats (no longer available).

Her sunglasses are the Linda Farrow Newman Aviator Frame Sunglasses, $1059 on sale for $855.87.

The gold chain she is wearing in the photo above is a gold herringbone style. It has not yet been identified.

Meghan also brought back a pair of earrings we first saw in August 2020 while the couple visited a pre-school in LA. They are the Starburst earrings from the Serena Williams Jewelry collection (no longer available). Similar pair here from Zales (same company).

We have an update from yesterday’s post. Originally we though Meghan wore the diamond tennis bracelet from Prince Charles — but upon closer look at additional photos we now see that it is two diamond tennis bracelets. UPDATE: We’re still thinking she is wearing the Bentley & Skinner diamond tennis bracelet gifted to Meghan from Prince Charles in 2018. (Shown below right and on Meghan’s wrist at the May 2018 Garden Party.)

UPDATE 4/19: Meghan also wore a new set of Shiffon pave diamond wrap band rings from a not yet released collection. The design is similar to the Duet Pinky Ring in gold, $1050 (set of 2) that she owns. She also had on her Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet in gold.

Looking for similar pieces for today’s look? Try these below —

Mango pocket tweed jacket, $99. Also available at Nordstrom here.

The J. Crew slouchy boyfriend jeans, $99 or the Gap Mid Rise Vintage Slim Jeans with Washwell, $29.

Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses, $163.

**************************************

This morning the couple had a private engagement with team Canada.

She wore her Ralph Lauren Collection — the Leonarda Wrap Coat, $5290.

It has been suggested that she may be wearing the Ralph Lauren Collection ‘Seth’ Stretch-Camel-Hair Pant, $990.

Her caramel color leather bag could be the Carolina Herrera Mini Doma Insignia Satchel bag, 1500.

At first glance, the first look to me was perfect yet something seemed off too. The casual look was perfect for the event yet when I saw her from the side I immediately recognised the Celine logo and knew the blazer had to be Celine too. I agree with a previous comment that said she’s almost showing off brands too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love Meg and they could easily be on loan to her. But it seemed very “rich woman on the field” to me.

As for the look itself, the gold kind of overpowers the look to me. The buttons, her rim of her glasses, the bracelet, the chain on her bag, etc. The mini shoulder bag trend is dominating everywhere and I actually like she wore it like that. The shoes look fine but I think a pair of white sneakers would’ve made it look better. The sunglasses are the wrong shape for her face it appears drooping almost. A rectangular frame would’ve been perfect.
The camel fit is just not it for me. The draped coat is not ideal for the indoor occasion and the turtle neck is just a no. Maybe a nice camel shirt without a coat and her hair worn down would’ve done it

I love this blazer-with-casual-jeans look! This is the perfect casual but professional and stylish ensemble. The jeans are just right- I love the color and fit- and the blazer is beautiful. Too bad it costs more than two of my monthly house payments! Thanks for posting the similar Mango blazer that is much more affordable.

I personally don’t mind the rolled jeans. I do the same thing because I’m short, so if it is trendy now, good, because I’ve been doing it for years to avoid hemming my jeans lol.

I mostly like the first outfit. The coat is very chic and fits well for a change! The jeans are bit too baggy and I think they make the look less polished – though I know Meghan is a firm believer in the idea of always having something messy in an outfit. I’m surprised the jeans are described as skinny as they look much more mom-style to me; it’s the not the first time I’ve thought that about Meghan’s jeans, and I do wonder if her legs are so slim that most jeans just aren’t skinny enough. I would also have chosen a different pair of sunglasses as I find the aviators don’t go well with such a tight ponytail. A boxier style would have worked better, in my opinion.

The second outfit is just a complete no for me. It didn’t work back in New York and it did not need to be repeated. Given that Meghan has been wearing so much white on these engagements, and that it seems she and Harry were specifically going to meet Team Canada (in red) on this occasion, I’m surprised she didn’t bring out another white outfit to coordinate better.

I enjoyed these looks — the boxy jacket with jeans, great purse & shoes. Classic and chic!

I loved the monochrome camel…very elegant.

    She’s glowing!

Do you think she’s wearing a larger size than her normal size to give the jeans a more relaxed look? The stock photos look more fitted. I love the relaxed look of the jeans on Meghan.

Hi Christy, yes we think maybe she is wearing a larger size – more comfortable, etc. – which is why they look looser on her. Thanks, Susan

I really liked the casual look, with the black jacket and jeans…until I saw the picture on here and realized she rolled the bottoms of the jeans. We used to do that back when I was in middle school! Sometimes we even secured them with safety pins, so they would stay rolled! Thanks for the flashback, Meghan, but I think the 80s need to stay in the 80s.

I do really like all the other elements of that look, especially the handbag. She always has great taste in handbags!

Louise – we did the same and “pegging” jeans is making a big comeback. I just saw a video on TikTok last night of a GenXer poking fun at someone younger made a video on “how to make your jeans look tapper at the ankles”. It was funny but at the same time, so much is making a big come back – early 90’s and 80’s. I am personally loving it. Thanks, Susan

OK, the first one looks a little more like “classic Meghan” and I like it. Not a ‘wow’ look for me, but that’s not what it needs to be. It’s fine, she looks comfortable, I’m thrilled to see her and Harry out and about.

Camel outfit is…not my favorite. I love me a camel, I love monochrome, and I love Meghan some camel AND monochrome, but head-to-toe and literally all the way up her neck is veering close to wearing a pantyhose for me. Maybe just one thing to break it up–a silk shirt instead of a turtleneck, a bit of white somewhere, hair down? It just looks so stiff to me.

The other thing is Meghan’s dressing of late is, to me (and grains of salt here, we’ve only seen like, 3 outfits!) somehow outwearing her. It’s a lot of wealth-signaling, a lot of trend-signaling…more formulaic rather than intrinsic and authentic. So, we get Chanel cap flats and a Chanel-esque tweed jacket, straight-leg relaxed jeans…tick, tick tick. Camel coat, trousers, gold…tick, tick, tick. It looks fine, but I think it’s the type of dressing that looks best if the person dresses TO present the clothes. I don’t think Meghan’s that type of woman; SHE is what’s interesting. Maybe Victoria Beckham could pull off head-to-toe turtleneck camel because she’s the kind of woman that wants to show off Looks. Meghan, however, has cool sh*t she wants to do and say and I think her dressing could be a little less “look” and more supportive of HER.

        Thanks!
I’m really fascinated by royal (and former-royal, natch) fashion because unlike celebrities who are either photographed on the red carpet where they are literally expected *to be* a hanger presenting the clothes OR they are often shot in public, but going from Point A to Point B in a very limited capacity, royals often have to like, actually function in their clothes, and sometimes perform several functions at once in different environments–inside AND outside, in heat and rain; give a speech AND play with toddlers; have a business meeting, then go walk on the beach; plant a tree, present an award, and help cook a charity lunch, etc. How on earth does one dress for all that?

I feel a little mean critiquing Meghan because the demands are just insane, but here, I just think a more tailored jacket or top, still in white/cream so she stood out, would have been just as chic, without looking so mannered.

Kate, you’re not being “mean” critiquing the fashion. You worded your critique of the jacket very well. We’re all here for healthy debate on the fashion. Saying something like “Meghan looks awful” is more mean/harsh than saying “Meghan’s look today is not very flattering in my opinion”. You can be respectful with critiquing – it’s all in how it is worded and how the tone comes across. You can love the person and not be fond of what the person is wearing and that is ok. Hope that helps! 🙂 – Susan C.

I agree with you 100% Kate. Meghan looked effortless before she got married and now it’s as you said. She’s so pretty and so very interesting all on her own. She does not need to be someone’s (a designer’s) clothes hanger.

I always felt Meghan’s sweet spot is “downtown chic” or “dressy casual.”
This might be reaching too much, but I’m a native Angeleno, like Meghan, and I always felt that she dresses…like an Angeleno. LA is the sort of place where somehow a Chanel jacket–so fashionable everywhere else–can veer into stuffy; meanwhile Birkenstocks go anywhere. Similarly, I think Meghan’s got what I think of as “brunch and cocktail” attire down, but once she veers into something more tailored and more formal, she kind of loses her edge. My favorite pantsuits she’s worn are similar to those like the one she wore to the Endeavor Fund Awards (2018?)–with cropped pants and skinny jackets. Man, you just wanted to BE her!

The black jacket is lovely, but I don’t like it paired with these jeans. The model’s sample with the black pants, this looks fabulous.
