Last week, in a delightful surprise, Meghan paid a heartwarming visit to TrebeCafé, a sanctuary for girls and young women, in Düsseldorf, Germany.
TrebeCafé, a non-profit led by the charity organization Diakonie Düsseldorf assists young girls and women who mainly live on the streets, hence those who have no roof over their head or spend a lot of time on the streets. The women can find shelter during the day, a place to shower and eat, clean clothes and hygiene products, as well as support from social workers. The relaxed atmosphere at Trebe Café creates a welcoming environment where these women can feel comfortable.

It is understood that Meghan helped the women prepare lunch and answer any questions they had for her.

The initial shyness was able to quickly take the 42-year-old from the women. The visitors to the TrebeCafé openly told the Duchess about their earlier life on the street, how they got to know the TrebeCaffe and how they got back on track with the support of the staff.
TrebeCafé manager Maria Peixoto and business manager Tanja Buck reported on their work, but then left the field to the young women and the Duchess to prepare lunch. Meghan took over vegetable chopping without hesitation. In a casual atmosphere, the young women now had the opportunity to ask the Duchess everything they always wanted to know about them.”

I can’t say why Meghan wants to tuck, but tucking in generally does look more polished–NOT tucking in would look like she didn’t make an effort and probably swamp her in fabric. I also think that this is a fashion choice. Higher-waisted and mid-waist pants are in style at the moment–and if you wear those sorts of pants, you kind of have to tuck. Meghan has a short torso and I think of her as being “all limbs”–long, pin limbs with a more straight torso, so in my view, a higher waist and tuck-in looks a little more “compressed” on her. It’s not necessarily my favorite proportion on her, but there’s lots more to getting dressed than pure figure flattery. I’m a very short lady and love wide-leg pants even though they’re probably not the best cut for me simply because they’re comfortable and the ‘swish’ makes me feel confident.
Personally, I always thought Meghan looks great in lower-rise pants, maybe because of her shorter torso?
Great outfit, amazing cause to highlight!! Maybe its me but I just don’t understand why she repeatedly wears clothing that seems to accentuate her stomach/middle area? Like tucking in your tops into high-waisted bottoms, esp when the rest of us would realistically be trying to hide that area, not highlight it?…am assuming my comment will “get edited,” but its a pretty realistic & honest, relatable question!!

Hi Susan! Thank you! Yes it a legit actual question I often think of when viewing Ms outfits AND while choosing my own, I meant no harm. (my daughter has tried explaining high-waisted skirts +pants to be, but I still don’t get it? Esp due to being middle-aged and having an unfair tummy bulge)
Hi Laura–I have a similar body type to Meghan, although she is one inch taller than me. She and I are both very short-waisted, which means that the distance from our shoulders to our hips is not long. Most of her height comes from her legs (same with me). I hadn’t noticed that she was short-waisted until I started watching “Suits” reruns lately on Netflix. When you’re short waisted and wear tailored pants like the ones she was wearing in Germany, they come up very high. Paperbag pants come up even higher. I tend to avoid those high cut pants because they look funny on me (they look like they’re swallowing me up), but when I do wear them. I always tuck in my top. That’s because most of those pants have belt loops, pleats and other details like back pockets that will create bumps and lumps and look odd if the top is above it. She’s wearing a thin sweater here, which would have definitely looked lumpy had she left the sweater out. If you’re short-waisted and wear a loose top out above tailored pleated pants, you look like you’re swimming in fabric. I’m thinking about that nutmeg colored stain top she wore last week, tucked into similar colored pants. Had she worn that blouse outside of her pants, it would have been too much fabric on too small of a woman. So that’s my analysis of your question, which in my opinion, is a completely fair question to ask!
