Meghan Wears Favorite Daughter ‘Diana’ Jacket for Visit to The Welcome Project in San Antonio

Meghan and Harry’s commitment to empowering women transcends borders, as evidenced by their recent visit to The Archewell Foundation’s San Antonio Welcome Project, supporting resettled Afghan women.

This initiative, inspired by Meghan’s earlier work with the Hubb Community Kitchen in the U.K., has now evolved into a multifaceted program known as The Welcome Project.

Meghan wore a navy jacket from California based brand Favorite Daughter—the ‘Diana’ jacket—a subtle nod to her late mother-in-law. She paired the jacket with what looks like a dark wash jeans. (More details at the end of the post.)

The Duke and Duchess actively participated in The Welcome Project’s San Antonio sector, witnessing the women’s creativity and skill development, particularly in sewing.

The day concluded with a heartwarming communal meal where Meghan joined in making traditional Afghan flatbread, bolani.

The Welcome Project, announced back in December, 2023, operates in eleven locations across the U.S., promoting activities ranging from sewing to art, hiking, swimming, photography, storytelling, and cooking. The program aims to foster a sense of belonging and has already shown remarkable results in building relationships and decreasing social isolation.

Echoing Meghan’s previous work with the Hubb Community Kitchen, The Welcome Project employs food as a tool for connection. “Welcome Dinners” are organized, bringing participants together over a meal, showcasing the project’s commitment to community building.

The Duchess wore a jacket from California based brand Favorite Daughter — the Diana jacket in Night Sky, $368.

The jacket boasts a sleek, stretchy fit, crafted from a fabric blend that includes polyester, rayon, and elastane.

Founded amidst the challenges of the Covid era, the brand is the brainchild of sisters Erin and Sara Foster, recognized figures in the entertainment industry known for their roles as comedians and writers. Beyond their creative pursuits, the duo has established a notable presence in the business world, actively engaging in investments and collaborations with various companies. “The idea was formed out of us wanting to create a fashion line made up of all the things we wished we had in our closet, or pieces we wished we could adjust to be better,” Erin says, noting their focus is on quality.

Finally, we have a “Feel Good” moment to share. This afternoon John Martinez, the nephew of Irma Garcia, a teacher who lost her life defending her students in the Uvalde school shooting in 2022, shared this special moment on X.

Irma Garcia had taught at Robb Elementary for 23 years. Her husband, Joe Garcia died of a heart attack just days later after visiting her memorial.

Martinez has shared how the couple reached out to his family following the tragedy and how they have stayed in touch. Harry and Meghan spent time with the family which included them singing Happy Birthday to John’s mother—even bringing a cake!

The couple also attended a local Uvalde event – The event was hosted by KABOOM! which is one of the organizations that made a deep commitment to the community after the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary.

KABOOM!, The City of Uvalde and the Archewell Foundation partnered together shortly after the tragedy to create a park just four blocks away from the school. The community was able to give creative ideas for their dream playground with slides, swings, merry-go-rounds, and tetherballs.

The San Antonio Area Foundation (SAAF) and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country have partnered to collect and distribute funds to support survivors and victims’ families. There are three funds to choose from to donate to.
