Prince Harry and Meghan spent the morning connecting with veteran and active duty service members and their families at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.

As part of their visit, the royal couple spent time with Operation Bigs, an innovative mentoring program for children of military families, including those of active duty, veteran, and Gold Star families. During their interactions, mentors and mentees shared insights into how mentorship positively impacts their goals and aspirations. They also highlighted the invaluable sense of community fostered through Operation Bigs.

Established in 2004, Operation Bigs serves as a vital link, connecting young individuals and families with mentors who understand the shared experiences and challenges that come with having a parent or parents in the military—both during deployment and upon their return.

The program’s reach has been substantial, having served over 3,000 Navy and Marine Corps children to date. Furthermore, Operation Bigs has expanded its footprint, now boasting over 30 affiliates across the country. This growth underscores the program’s commitment to supporting military families nationwide, creating a network of mentorship and camaraderie for the children who navigate the unique dynamics of military life.
