UPDATED: 3/1 —
We have a quick post late tonight. Meghan made a surprise appearance this evening with Prince Harry on the Late Late Show with his friend James Corden.
Harry appeared on the show in a wide-ranging interview – 17 minutes! – that took the fellow Britons everywhere from the top of a double decker bus to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air house to an obstacle course. And Harry spilled the tea – figuratively and literally.
At the top of the interview Harry said that, because of COVID, it was really the first time he had a chance to see his new home of L.A. James, in an effort to make the Duke feel more at home, served him tea and crumpets – which, after the bus hit a bump in the road, spilled all over Harry.
On the tour, the pair stopped off at the the Fresh Prince of Bel Air house from the tv show where Harry rapped the show’s theme song with a little help from James.
James brought Harry to the house to try and “kiddingly” convince him to buy the mansion, saying it made sense for a prince to live in the “Fresh Prince” house. The pair even spoke with the current home owners.
Much to James’ surprise, Harry asked the owner if he could use their restroom and had a little fun with the front window.
Harry joked, as he popped his head through the window, to James, “If I’m not out in five minutes, come and find me!”
To get her opinion, James then FaceTimed Meghan, who laughingly said “I think we’ve done enough moving” and adorably called her husband “Haz.”
Back aboard the bus, James asked Harry how and when he knew Meghan was the one, to which Harry replied —
“The second date I was starting to think ‘Wow, this is pretty special,'” Harry told Corden.
“It was just the fact we hit it off with each other and we were just so comfortable in each other’s company,” he said. We went from zero to 60 in the first two months.”
Harry continued, “Dating with me or with any member of the royal family I guess is kinda flipped upside down. All the dates become dinners, or watching the tv or chatting at home. Then eventually once you become a couple, then you venture out to dinners to the cinema and everything else.”
“Everything was done back to front with us so actually we got to spend an enormous amount of time just the two of us rather than going to friends’ houses or out for dinner where there were other distractions,” he explained.”
Other tidbits we learned? Harry (and presumably Meghan) has watched The Crown; they also like to watch Jeopardy before bed and maybe some Netflix (and chill!). Archie’s first (impressive) word was crocodile, and for Christmas, he received none other than a waffle maker from his great-grandmother, the Queen.
According to Harry, Archie gets up everyone morning and says, “waffle”.
Harry clarified that he and Meghan’s decision was a step back, never a step down, from the Royal Family – saying the “toxic” British press was destroying his mental health – and that they would continue in a life of public service, bringing compassion, making people happy, and changing the world in any small way they can.
More from Harry —
“It was never walking away.”
“It was stepping back rather than stepping down,” Harry said. “It was a really difficult environment as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. I was like, ‘This is toxic.’ So I did what any husband and what any father would do and was like, ‘I need to get my family out of here.'”
He added, “But we never walked away, And as far as I’m concerned, and whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away. I will always be contributing. But my life is public service. So wherever I am in the world it’s going to be the same thing.”
The clip ended with a special trip to a military style boot camp that James had arranged.
Harry encouraged his friend throughout the course to keep going to which James replied, “why do you sound like your talking to your son?”
Now a look at what Meghan wore.
EDIT: While it was difficult to see from the FaceTime shot, we could see she wore a blue smocked top or dress and we don’t have a designer confirmation we may never know exactly what Meghan wore in the clip.
The neckline and sleeves of the top or dress closely resembles these RepliMeghan options:
UPDATE 3/1: This dress from Los Angeles based and female owned Rhodes is a close match in style and color to that of Meghan’s top that we can see in the images. It is the brand’s Harper Off-The-Shoulder Shirred Cotton-Gauze Maxi Dress, retail $365 marked down to $182.
The women’s lifestyle brand was founded by long-time friends Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers. More from Rhodes —
Born out of a shared love affair with travel, we celebrate the wardrobe of the modern nomad. Our clothes are confident and flirtatious, playing with vibrant colors and bold patterns. We design our prints in-house and are inspired by the obvious- art, culture, history, and adventure, but also by the seemingly mundane beauty of everyday life.
A side-by-side look at the dress as compared to the neckline of Meghan’s —
We also found this maternity dress with a similar neckline from another LA based brand, Pink Blush — the Blue Smocked Puff-Sleeve Maxi Dress, originally retailing for $45 and marked down to $36. The dress is currently sold out. We will update the post if the dress should happen to be restocked or if we should find the exact dress/top she wore.
UPDATE 2/26: This dress from MICHAEL Michael Kors is also a possibility for the dress Meghan is wearing. While it is a shade of navy blue in the stock photos, it could appear differently depending on the lighting. Thanks to Meghan’s Mirror for the suggestion!
MICHAEL Michael Kors Smocked Puff-Sleeve Dress in navy, $175.
Below are some more “Get the Look” and budget friendly options —
NSR Lily smocked midi dress, $33; Artizia navy blue Wilfred Laken Shortsleeve Mini Dress,$60; Forever21 dress for $29; and the Puff Sleeve Smocked Dress, $29, from L.A. based brand Velvet Torch. Thanks to Meghan’s Fashion for the Velvet Torch dress suggestion.
If you are looking for a top rather than a dress here are a few options — from Lucky Brands the ruched square neck top, $89; from Old Navy – the Ruffled Square-Neck Smocked Chambray Blouse, $34; from Loft – the Smocked Puff Sleeve Top, $39.
UPDATE 3/16: We’re thinking that Meghan may be wearing a necklace from her friend, Taryn Toomey’s The Class.
It is The Airelume trapezoid necklace in lapis, $1295.
Meghan’s friend, Taryn Toomey, who runs The Class, attended the Duchess’ NYC baby shower in February 2019 and the Sussex Royal Instagram account highlighted The Class in a post on April 30, 2019 along with several other wellness accounts.
“To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection–to not just hear each other, but to listen,”
Thanks to our follower, Laila, on Instagram for the suggestion of the necklace!

Could Harry be more adorable? And have you ever seen someone look as flawless on FaceTime as Meghan?

The JC interview was fantastic! Sadly no karaoke as James usually has, but still a super fun watch, I highly recommend it for Sussex fans! And it was fun + interesting to see Prince Harry in such a fun casual “untraditional manner,” a great watch!!

What a perfect interview! Hit all the right buttons. So wonderful to hear from Harry in this way and get a fun moment with Meghan. If that’s the dress it’s so sweet. Beautiful color.
