In addition to being a brand new mom of two, as of today, Meghan is a children’s book author!
The Duchess’ book, The Bench, was released just four days after baby Lili’s birth and is written by Meghan with illustrations by Christian Robinson. The book is already at number 6 on Amazon’s Best Seller List in the US.
Written in Meghan’s distinctive calligraphy script, she dedicated the book to Harry and Archie — “For the man and the boy who make my heart go pump-pump”. The book is released just in time for Father’s Day and details the special relationship between fathers and sons, told through a mother’s perspective – and inspired by Harry and Archie.
The book features illustrations of different fathers and sons but closes with a drawing of what appears to be Harry and Archie feeding chickens and, on the opposite page, what appears to be the Sussexes’ beagle, Guy, along with Meghan holding a baby in a sling next to their other dog, Pula.
In addition to writing the book, Meghan will also narrate the audiobook, according to a press release from the book’s publisher, Random House Children’s Books.
“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,” Meghan said in the same release. “That poem became this story. Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”
Today it was announced that Archewell, along with The Duchess, have received the support of the publisher, Random House, to distribute 2,000 copies of The Bench at no cost to libraries, community centers, schools, and nonprofit programs across the country.
