Harry and Meghan made an appearance on the first-ever TIME100 TV special tonight – marking the first time the Sussexes have appeared together on television since stepping down from Royal life earlier this year. The Duchess was wearing a brown top from Victoria Beckham, black cropped Alexander Wang trousers and her Manolo Blahnik BB pumps in black suede.
In the short clip, Meghan sits next to her husband on a bench in what is assumed to be the garden of their Santa Barbara home, further confirmed when their black lab, Pula —named for the currency of Botswana, a country that has romantic significance to the duo — makes a scene-stealing appearance in the background!
The Duchess wore her long hair down for the appearance and accessorized her look with two of her favorite bracelets from Cartier and Monica Vinader.
Harry and Meghan appeared as TIME 100 alumni, as both appeared on the list in 2018, the year they married. In the brief piece about her – written by longtime friend and actress Priyanka Chopra-Jonas (then just Priyanka Chopra) – Meghan was described as someone who cares deeply about the world and “with her, what you see is real, and what you get is a relatable young woman with her heart and mind in the right place.”
Chopra continued —
“Her compassion, evident in the causes she supports, and her drive to break down stereotypes – obvious in her actions – will connect her to a generation in much need of kindness.”
Flash forward to present day, and Harry and Meghan spoke about just that – showing kindness, specifically online, how that plays a critical role for children, and how the lines must be redrawn, Meghan said, noting that we can either be trained to be kind or trained to be cruel – something she, unfortunately, knows all too well.
Meghan has made news in recent days for speaking out about the importance of the upcoming election – with Gloria Steinem even spilling that the Duchess is cold-calling people encouraging them to vote! – and, as today is National Voter Registration Day, the Duchess took a moment to recognize the importance of Americans’ civic duty.
“THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION OF OUR LIFETIME,” SHE SAID.
Meghan said that, through voting, American values will be put into action and voices will be heard, reminding all Americans that they matter.
“You deserve to be heard,” she said. “As we work to reimagine the world around us, let’s challenge ourselves to build communities of compassion.”
The event celebrated TIME’s annual list of its 100 most influential people in “an entertainment-filled inside look at the leaders, creators, and everyday heroes comprising the 2020 list ahead of its TIME print debut,” according to ABC, the network on which the special aired.
The Duke and Duchess appeared alongside luminaries like John Legend, Trevor Noah, and Sandra Oh at the event, which featured performances by Halsey, Jennifer Hudson, The Weekend, and more.
Typically, the list is celebrated through a series of in-person events that, because of COVID-19, couldn’t happen this year – thus the pivot to the TV special. Though a change from the norm, this allowed for “a unique experience” that allowed “more people to participate than ever before,” said Ian Orefice, president of TIME Studios.
Though we’ve seen the Sussexes on Zoom calls and other virtual appearances since COVID-19 hit earlier this year, it marks the couple’s first joint TV appearance since they left their roles as senior Royals in January, though we doubt it will be their last – after the pair inked a landmark $150 million deal with Netflix, we expect them to be on our screens, both in front of and behind the camera, more and more often.
And, as the hourlong event aired, the full list was released on TIME’s website, and you can grab a print copy of the magazine when it hits newsstands this Friday, September 25.

Earlier today Harry shared some words for the start of the 2020 UK Trailwalker Relay.
Teams are taking part in a virtual relay to help end poverty. The event was organized with the Queen’s Gurkha Signals and will be a unique opportunity for teams to put themselves to the test.
Now a look at what the Duchess wore for this evening’s appearance.
Meghan wore a new shirt by Victoria Beckham — the silk shirt in Chestnut Brown, $770. Victoria Beckham’s site shows a slightly modified version of the shirt with seam detail going down the left and right sides. — the ’70s Collar Shirt’ in Chestnut Brown, Reg. $770.00 marked down to $462. It’s possible this one is from a previous season which is why it would be marked down.
We’re thinking that Meghan wore her Alexander Wang crop trousers.
We first saw the Duchess wear these trousers in March 2018 when she and the Duke made a visit to Birmingham, UK. See our original post below.
Meghan’s shoes are her favorite Manolo Blahnik BB pumps in black suede, $665.
The Duchess’ bracelets are her Cartier ‘Love’ bangle bracelet in gold and her Monica Vinader Linear Friendship Bracelet in gold, $175.

I love those trousers! Meghan is masterful at wearing slim-fitting cropped trousers (I’m also remembering her Alexander McQueen suit at her first Endeavor Awards) and she always looks wonderful when she wears them. I also love them paired with this top, which is a wonderful warm autumnal color. That being said, I’m having a REALLY hard time imagining why a fairly basic shirt would be worth about $700.00. I say this as someone who primarily shops sales, though, because I’m a cheapskate when it comes to clothing.

Hi Laura – we LOVE this look as well. I am all in favor of a pair of cropped trousers or jeans as I’m petite. 🙂 I took have a hard time with that price point, however, Meghan continues to support British brands/designers and some may be aware that Meghan is friends with Victoria Beckham as well as Stella McCartney. Perhaps these were gifted to her. Now that they are no longer “Senior Royals” she does have an opportunity to accept more samples and items from designers she’s friends with. Who knows. I have been trying to work on adding in #RepliMeg / #MatchMegStyle pieces to “get the look” in each of the posts. For our latest post, today, I’ve added several alternative lower price-point items. I hope this helps! 🙂 – Susan C.
