Today The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their New York City visit at One World Observatory with New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Bill de Blasio, First Lady Chirlane McCray and their son, Dante de Blasio.
The couple arriving at One World Observatory or “Freedom Tower”, which is the colloquial name that many still refer to the tower as.
Meghan wore a navy outfit for today’s engagement which includes her Cartier earrings and a pair of Aquazzura pumps.
This is the first engagement in New York for the couple since the birth of their daughter, Lili, earlier this year.
Below, Harry and Meghan are greeted by Governor Hochul, NYC Mayor de Blasio, his wife and First Lady Chirlane McCray and their son, Dante de Blasio.
The visit comes just two days before the couple is due to participate in the Global Citizen Live event in Central Park on Saturday to promote the COVID vaccine.
From the Global Citizen’s site —
This gathering of Global Citizens, historic artists, and global leaders is just one part of 24 hours of action dedicated to our campaign, a Recovery Plan for the World, which focuses on COVID-19, ending the hunger crisis, resuming learning for all, protecting the planet, and advancing equity for all.”

A look at the Freedom Tower and New York City skyline.
The Freedom Tower, built after the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers or World Trade Center, is the tallest building not only in the United States, but in the Western Hemisphere.
The Mayor’s tweet from this morning.
When asked about returning to New York, Meghan replied, “It’s wonderful to be back, thank you.”
The group poses for a photo on the observatory deck.
Harry described the visit as being “fantastic”.
The couple poses for more photos outside One World Observatory with the Governor and Mayor de Blasio’s family.
Now a look at what Meghan wore for today’s engagement —
Meghan wore a navy coat paired with navy turtleneck and trousers. We do not have confirmation of what designers the Duchess wore and will continue to update the post as we find out more details.
UPDATE 26 September: Meghan’s turtleneck top could be from The Row – ‘Chanic’ cashmere wool turtleneck top, $1290.
It has been confirmed that Meghan is wearing a turtleneck from Giuliva Heritage – ‘Arianna’ sweater in navy, €450.
The sweater is described as a long sleeved, turtle neck sweater in soft virgin wool knit.
It was suggested that she may be wearing an Armani coat, however the button on Armani did not match the button on Meghan’s coat.
Meghan wore a pair of Aquazzura pumps, confirmed by the brand. They are the ‘Purist’ 105 pump in navy suede, $650.
The Duchess brought back her Birks ‘Snowflake’ ring in rose gold, a piece we’ve seen multiple times in previous engagements, along with her Lorraine Schwartz diamond pinky ring. She also wore her Cartier diamond stud earrings, first worn in April 2018 for and Invictus engagement.
Thanks to Laura @solidmoonlight on Twitter for spotting the earrings and ring!
She also wore her gold Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet, Cartier gold tank watch (Believed to have belonged to Princess Diana), her Jennifer Meyer 18k gold bezel tennis bracelet ($3000) and Diana’s tennis bracelet.
We’re expecting to see additional appearances by the couple throughout the weekend. Check back for updates!
The Global Citizen’s Live Festival begins at 4:00pm EST on Saturday and will be shown on ABC, Hulu, YouTube and the BBC.

I really like this look although the pants are a smidge too long. It is also my opinion that she found outfits that fit her well and that she felt comfortable in with a post baby body and when the weather ended up being hot she didn’t have time to find anything else she felt she wanted to wear in front of the cameras. This is all conjecture and just based off how I felt dressing post baby.

Since she seems to be wearing Italian designers for this trip, and if her coat is Emporio Armani (with different button), I’d assume she is wearing their virgin wool midnight turtleneck

Pants too long….It was 80 degrees and humid in NYC yesterday! Guess her stylist got it wrong….it being the first days of Fall and all.

I think it’s a personal thing but I don’t refer to it as the Freedom Tower anymore and I’m originally from Westchester County close to NYC, they dropped that name back in 2009. I’ve been referring to it as One World Trade for awhile now because that is the real name. Freedom Tower was considered to be too emotionally charged and many people/companies were not comfortable with the idea of working in a tower with such a symbolic name, considering the events of 9/11. One World Trade is considered more of a neutral name. When people say that name (and they tend to not be from the NY area), I don’t usually correct them but I do tell them that I don’t call it by that name. And I actually like the name change. We already got the beautiful Statue of Liberty in the NYC harbor, it’s symbolic enough of a name for me and liberty means the same thing as freedom. 🙂
I have yet to visit One World Trade, though I would like to. Not sure how expensive it is but probably the price and the wait to get up will put me off lol. I had visited the Twin Towers observatory as a child a few years before 9/11, so any visit for sure will be emotional for me (I have been to the memorial quite a few times, though not the museum).
As for what Meghan is wearing, she looks great, though over dressed in terms of how heavy her clothing looks considering temps were around 80 degrees in NYC! I’m guessing as a Californian she gets cold easily? Anyways the outfit was very respectful and professional looking. The trousers are a tad bit too long though.

Hi Amelie – I live in New Jersey not too far from NYC. My husband is a first responder in Essex County and I know I’ve heard them say “Freedom Tower”. Thanks for this information as I or we had no idea about this. I think it’s very mixed what people are referring to it as or just hadn’t known. When I was working in Jersey City on the waterfront from 2012 to 2015 we were still referring to it as the “Freedom Tower” while it was being completed. I have been over there, but I’ve never gone up in the tower itself. Funny enough, we also had a view of the Statue of Liberty on our floor of the building. My boss and I had the corner office that faced Manhattan. I too had been to the Twin Towers numerous times growing up. I had been up on the observatory at the towers a few times as well – once on a high school trip with some exchange students many years prior to 9/11. Now I’m dating myself! Although we never went to the Statue of Liberty. Again, thanks for this information. 🙂

I was actually born in Princeton! My parents lived there and commuted from Princeton Junction when they both used to work in NYC. They moved to Westchester when I was 4 so I can’t say I remember NJ all that much. My dad used to work downtown not too far from the WTC, though he ended up transferring to an office in Stamford, CT before 9/11. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe some of his coworkers who didn’t transfer ended up in the WTC, I’ll have to ask him to clarify (so if he hadn’t transferred, he might have been downtown on 9/11 which obviously is a scary thing to contemplate). I visited his office once when I was very young, he had an amazing view of the NYC harbor and you could see the Statue of Liberty from it! I’ve only been there once in second grade, long time ago! And we only visited the pedestal, we didn’t go up into the crown. And my mom worked in Midtown near Grand Central for about 30 years but on 9/11 she was actually in Philly for a work conference and got stuck there for a few days. We are both so lucky to live near such a fabulous city!

I’ve never liked the severe pulled back hair without some face framing pieces and add it with the dark turtleneck and the heavy dark coat and it looks like her head is separated from her body. The look in general is definitely New York but I’m seeing NY in the winter, not in September. It just clashes with the season and with what others are wearing. I like it for the most part, just not for this. She is petite and seems to go for these coats that overwhelm her small frame.
The photo of Meghan and Harry in the museum was interesting. Harry seemed to be humbled by the scale of the hole in the ground in which the museum was built. IIRC that is where some of the structural support is/was for the original buildings both above and below ground. I hope to visit the museum and memorial one day. As a veteran and the (now former) wife of an active duty soldier, that day changed my life and the lives of many active duty friends and their families forever.

Can’t get past the fact that hit 80 degrees here yesterday with high humidity and she was wearing wool turtleneck and what appears to be a wool or wool blend coat. Would have been a nice outfit if it had been 50 degrees and mid October-November. The other women you see her with are yesterday are dressed appropriately for the weather. She has many pretty blouses and blazers so it’s mystifying.

Glad to see the blog following recent events! Meghan looks great. I love a woman in a power suit, but there’s something with the proportions that are off to me. I think it’s trying to lengthen her legs but up top, maybe it’s the turtleneck paired with the collar and shoulder pads which is unfortunate since she’s quite elegant. Some of the higher waisted trousers are tough on her since she has a short torso. The outfit also seemed heavy for the weather, comparing to the new Governor. Does she have a stylist?

Hi Kasey – We’re not sure if she has a stylist. For the TIME100 photoshoot they had several stylists provided by the magazine. I like the outfit, but agree that it seems heavy for the weather we’re having. Though it was appropriate for the visit to a somber memorial. Thanks, Susan

I agree that the coloring was appropriate for the occasion, and the outfit was even rather stylish. I’m not sure if wearing heels over 4 inches was the best choice for walking around the site, but perhaps she can tolerate them (I certainly couldn’t walk around in them for long!).
I am also amazed she wasn’t roasting–as I commented in your previous post, it was about 75 degrees here in New York today, with high humidity. I think a navy dress without a coat would have been more than sufficient.
Maureen says
Anyone know what temperature they came from? If California was truly hot then 75F would not feel anything more than warm. It’s something West Australians feel (rather proudly) – after summer days regularly in the 90s (i.e. 34C) travelling to other states’ capital cities can feel like a journey to another season.

The tower is *formerly* known as the Freedom Tower. It’s not called that anymore.
WhatMeghanWore says
Thanks Sarah! We still call it the “Freedom Tower” here – the colloquial name of “Freedom Tower” that is. I will update the post and note this. Thanks, Susan
