Meghan’s Skincare Tips (Including the Inside-Out Facial!)
We’re back today with another installment in our series about Meghan’s beauty, skin and hair care routines. As with our Royal Beauty Regimen post, this piece is also written by WMW Contributing Writer Brooke Nurthen.
While most royal fans piece together possible favored products from unnamed sources or super HD pics of a shopping bag, Meghan’s followers are lucky to have years of pre-engagement interviews where the beauty maven herself doled out the product recommendations and industry tips and tricks. Today we’re honing in on skincare – the steps Meghan takes to create a flawless base, and the products we’re sure she’s relying on with just a bit more than a week to go before the big day.
For a quick cleanse (ALWAYS remove your makeup before bed, folks), Meghan recommends Biore Cleansing Cloths ($7.99).
“They’re great to keep in the car and on your nightstand when you have those horribly lazy nights that the thought of getting up to actually wash your face seems unbearable.” – Meghan Markle, BeautyBanter
For a full cleanse – which I strongly endorse – Meghan told Allure she very much likes the Rice Enzyme Powder ($65) by Japanese-inspired American luxury skincare brand, Tatcha. “I really love the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder. It just sort of foams on your face and gives you a really subtle exfoliation.” The product is a water-activated powder, meaning it turns into a creamy, deep cleansing exfoliant on contact with water. There are four variants for different skin types, so those with oily, dry or sensitive skin are covered too. In keeping with Meghan’s philosophies, Tatcha is committed to using their status for good: “Every Tatcha purchase you make supports girls’ education around the world. Tatcha is proud to partner with Room to Read to transform girls’ futures.”
For moisturizer, Meghan recommended La Mer’s cult favorite Creme de la Mer when speaking to U Beauty. The cream is available in a few sizes and different formulations for different skin types if you’re thinking of taking the plunge. More recently, the more affordable Quench serum by LA facialist Kate Somerville was mentioned as a favorite in an interview with Gritty Pretty.
I’ve been going to Kate’s clinic in LA for facials for years, and now that I live in Toronto for work, I still use the products to maintain that glow that her products give.” — Meghan Markle, Gritty Pretty
Sephora calls it a “red carpet favorite”, perfect for creating “youthful, healthy and fresh” skin.
For eye cream, Meghan uses a product from US-based natural skincare brand Dr Hauschka.
I’ve got expressions lines now I’m in my 30s so I’m conscious of using anti-ageing. Eye cream is a big thing for me – I use Dr Hauschka Regenerating Eye Cream.”
The antioxidant-rich cream claims to minimize fine lines and is described as being perfect under makeup.
“I do facial exercises from one of my favorite aestheticians, Nichola Joss, who basically has you sculpt your face from the inside out. I swear it works, as silly as you may feel. On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are waaaay more sculpted. There’s a reason she is in high demand around awards season when every actress wants to look A-plus.”
She also raved about Nichola when speaking with Gritty Pretty. When asked for the A-List facialist everyone should see? “Nichola Joss [from London] without question. She sculpts your face from the inside out.” Intrigued? Me too. For some more info on what an ‘inside-out’ facial might be, read this great review of Nichola’s services from beauty website Into the Gloss. In an interview with Harpers Bazaar, Nichola (“an authority on non-surgical anti-aging”) recommends “a clean, healthy organic diet”, double cleansing, exfoliating acids and taking probiotics as some of her top tips for skin health. She also shares that because her facials require no down time, “you can actually have one the morning of your special event.” – Quite possible, then, we might see Nichola on the grounds of a particular castle one morning in May.
